Court Fines Patience Jonathan, Dismisses Suit Against EFCC

Justice Saliu Seidu of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has imposed a fine of N500,000 on the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience for withdrawing a suit instituted against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Mrs Jonathan had in February 2017 instituted a suit against the EFCC in which she was seeking an order of the court for the “enforcement of her fundamental rights to own property, fair hearing, human dignity, private and family life and freedom from discrimination”.

Africa Development Bank DG dies after collapsing in her office [photos]


African Development Bank (AfDB) director-general for Southern Africa, Dr Tonia Kandiero, has died after collapsing in her office in Pretoria, South Africa.




AfDB Malawi’s Benson Nkhoma, who confirmed her death said AfDB was still investigating the cause of death, but she had “complained of health issues” prior to her collapse on Wednesday night, June 28.

Osinbajo Departs Nigeria for Ethiopia

 Nigeria's Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is out of the country.
 
The Vice President departed Addis Ababa on Monday morning and will be back in the country the same day, a statement from his office said.
"AgP Osinbajo 'll be attending summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He leaves Abuja this morning & expected back later today", Laolu Akande, his spokesman said.

700 Boko Haram Terrorists Surrender to Nigerian Army

Boko Haram terrorists are surrendering to the Nigerian army in droves, according to the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.

Speaking at an arts exhibition, he said “a short while ago, I received the good news that about 700 Boko Haram terrorists within the fringes of Sambisa Forest have surrendered.
“Some others are in the process to surrender. This is a clear indication that the Boko Haram war is clearly being won.

INEC Issues Press Release About Its Recruitment Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has issued a statement denying reports that it is recruiting workers in all categories.

According to INEC, reports that it is recruiting for all categories are false, and are being spread by unscrupulous online websites.

INEC said vacancies are only available for the positions of Director of Research and Documentation and Assistant Director of Library, both at the electoral college.

It added that any news about vacancies will be published on its website- www.inecnigeria.org.

What Maitama Sule Told President Buhari Before His Death

At 88 years, Maitama Yusuf Sule, a two-time minister and former Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations died.

Sule, died in the early hours of Monday while on admission at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt. He was flown to the Egyptian hospital on Saturday after doctors at Kano’s Nasarawa Hospital diagnosed him of pneumonia and chest infection.

Christian Students Should Snub Arabic Classes' - Adeboye, Oyedepo, Kumuyi, Others

They explained that the Federal Government has no right to force any Nigerian student at any level to study Arabic Studies.

Court Fines Evans’ Lawyer N500,000 for Demanding his Release

The lawyer standing for kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, has lost yet another case in court.

Evans’ counsel, Olukoya Ogungbeje, was defeated on Friday, when Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed two fundamental rights applications filed by him, PUNCH Newspaper quoted an online medium, NewsMakers.

Ogungbeje had reportedly filed the case on behalf of his clients,  Chief Kenneth Chukwuemeka Ajoku and Chidinma Ozurumba, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, but it was dismissed for lack of merit and for being frivolous.

APC Chieftain, Udeogaranya, Advises Buhari To Handover Power In 2019

A former Lagos State chairman of the defunct African Renaissance Party (ARP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Udo Udeogaranya, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to hand over the mantle of leadership to someone younger than him in 2019.

He says the mood of the nation calls for a young president, who he believes could take Nigerian out of its political and economic quagmires.

It has been a long debate between the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Cross River State Government and environmental advocates over the construction of a 275km long “six-laned” Superhighway to connect Calabar- the Cross River State’s capital to Benue State and other parts of the country.
For many, it was simply an approval to go ahead with the Super Highway, particularly as intoned by the Cross River State governor that “equipment are returning to site and work will commence immediately as earlier planned.”
