Female student allegedly impregnated by lecturer gives birth to baby boy

A former nursing student of Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese Ijebu, Mosunmola, has been delivered of a baby boy.

The 28-year-old gave birth at the General Hospital, Epe, Lagos State, on Thursday.

We had reported that Mosunmola and her lecturer, Dr Seyi Adu, had a s*xual inter-course in a hotel sometime in August 2016.

While Mosunmola claimed that she was coerced into the relationship by Adu after she failed his course, Adu said he was seduced by the his student whom he never loved or dated. [go here to read full story]

Appointment of Special Assistants in Edo, a call to service - Edo State Govt.

As Edo State Government, on Friday, announced the appointments of 192 Special Assistants from each of the wards in all 18 Local Government Areas of the state [see here], Governor Godwin Obaseki, has explained that their appointments constituted a call to serve the people, noting that the task ahead was enormous and did not call for excess celebration.

The Governor said that the appointments came on the heels of the submission of the final report of the special committee set up to review the recommendations of eligible candidates from the various wards and LGAs.

A statement endorsed by the Chief of Staff to Governor Obaseki, Comrade Taiwo Akerele said: “We congratulate all those who have been appointed and state categorically that this is a call to service. This is not the time to spend too much celebrating, as the task ahead is enormous and comes with a high sense of responsibility, decorum, humility and leadership.”

ABU Set To Construct a N250m Golf Course On Campus

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria on Saturday began the construction of its N250 million Lakeview Golf Course on the campus.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, which was held in the main campus in Samaru, the Chancellor of the institution, Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Ugochukwu-Achebe, said sports has become big business that could generate massive revenue for organizations such as the ABU.

While describing sports as a big factor for national cohesion, Ugochukwu-Achebe said: “Golf is the premier of all sports which can be played from childhood to the end of one’s life.

“Golf is inexpensive, it is a gentleman’s game which is played without personal contact and it is civilised and non damaging.

Indian villagers worship calf born with human facial features

 A calf born with eyes, nose and ears resembling those of a human is being worshipped by Indian villagers who believe it is an avatar of a Hindu God, Lord Vishnu.

The calf was born on Thursday in an animal shelter in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, northern India.
Soon after its birth, hundreds of locals from surrounding villages gathered to pay their respects.

The animal died within an hour of its birth but that did not stop more locals from coming to seek its blessing. Video footage shows people offering flowers and bowing before the dead calf, which has been kept inside a glass box since it died.

"Don't Eat Suya or Accept Drinks From Strangers" Police Warns Enugu Residents

Police in Enugu have advised drivers and passengers to shun offers of drinks and suya meat from unknown persons at motor parks and other public areas.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ebere Amaraizu, gave the advice in a statement issued in Enugu on Saturday.

Amaraizu explained that recent intelligence showed that some unscrupulous persons were using the new contrivance to steal people’s property.
He said intelligence revealed that the swindlers usually offered passengers, tricycle and taxi-cab operators ‘‘drugged or poisoned bottled or sachet water, fruit juice, soft drinks and suya.

The most tattooed man in Britain may lose one of his arms after his body rejected a knuckle duster that was implanted in the limb.

More than 90% of his body is covered with more than 300 tattoos, including the whites of his eyes, which were dyed black.

He has also amended most other parts of his body – removing his nipples to make room for tattoos, carving ‘teeth marks’ into his ears and splitting his tongue in half.

Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu has explained why he went against some bail conditions.

Kane speaking through his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor said it was not for the prosecution to determine whether or not his client had violated the bail conditions.

Ejiofor said it was the exclusive responsibility of the court to decide whether or not the bail conditions had been violated. He, however, added that some of the conditions the defendant was being touted to have violated were unconstitutional.

He promised to file an application to set aside the “unconstitutional” bail conditions.

Ejiofor said, “It doesn’t lie in their power to determine whether he has breached the bail conditions or not.

Taxi Driver 'Slaps' Passenger To Death For Vomiting in His Car

A 36-years old taxi driver, Donmore Simende has been sentenced to jail for slapping his 28-year-old passenger, Rodney Siwela to death.

Simende, who slapped Siwela for vomiting in his car, pleaded not guilty to the charge of culpable homicide when he appeared before magistrate Crispen Mberewere in Zimbabwe.

He said: “I admit that l slapped him but he was drunk and he spent the whole night at the terminus maybe there is something that happened to him during the night. I did not slap him because he vomited in the vehicle but l slapped him because he insulted me by referring to my mother`s private parts,”

Sad: 44 Nigerian, Ghanaian migrants perish in the Sahara Desert

More than 40 migrants from Nigeria and Ghana have died in the Sahara Desert after their truck broke down in arid northern Niger.

The Red Cross said the migrants, most of whom have not been identified, died this week.

According to Reuters, six survivors walked to a remote village where they said that 44 people, mostly from Ghana and Nigeria and including three babies and two other children, died of thirst, said Lawal Taher, the department head for the Red Cross in the Bilma region.
Taher said  a search for the bodies was underway.

Osinbajo Moves to Clear N10bn Salary Arrears, Others

The Federal Government has begun steps to pay outstanding salaries and other allowances owed federal civil servants in the country.

The Deputy Director in charge of Press at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Samuel Olowookere, said this in a statement on Friday.

He said the process was initiated after top officials of the government met on the lingering issue of unpaid allowances and arrears of public servants on Friday.
Olowookere said that the meeting demonstrated the government’s commitment “to clear all arrears, such as outstanding allowances on promotion, 28 days relocation, repatriation, training, burial expenses and death benefits to public servants.”

Nigerian singer, Dammy Krane was arrested on Friday in Dade County, Miami, Florida.

The singer is currently in jail for grand theft, credit card and identity fraud. The mug shot of Dammy Krane appeared on the Internet not too long ago.

Dammy Krane's name on the mug shot is Johnson-Hunga Oyindamola Emmanuel. His bail has been set for $5,000.

In February 2017, Dammy Krane floated a non profit outfit called the Amin Foundation.

Now, there is a problem for his family as a Ugandan citizen is seeking court orders to exhume the body of the businessman so he can retrieve the money his gang members buried alongside his body.
In the suit papers filed with the country's High Court, the man identified as Magugu Abey has named 'A Plus Funeral Management' and the 'Bank of Uganda' as respondents, the Star reported.

TVC Speaks on sack of 145 staff

The Board of Continental Broadcasting Services Ltd (CBS), owners of Television Continental (TVC), and Radio Continental, on Friday, laid off 145 staff. [see here]

A statement issued by the management of the media outfit said the decision was part of its effort to restructure the enterprises.

According to the statement, the restructuring is geared towards repositioning the business for better and greater delivery of its services to its audiences and advertisers.
The organisation explained that in line with the changes, it would reconfigure its workforce, as part of the rationale to achieve its objectives.

Too many beer parlours in Anambra, Monarch cries out

 Chief Alex Onyido, the traditional ruler of Ogilisi, Idemili South Local Government in Anambra, has called for stringent measures to curtail the growing number of drinking joints in the state.

Onyido made the call on Friday in Awka, while speaking at the the 2017 edition of Lady Victoria Onyido quiz competition, organised by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, for secondary schools.

“The trend is worrisome and not in the best interest of public health.

“Such facilities breed crime and criminality; the rate at which such businesses are springing up in all corners calls for concern,” he said.

2 Chibokgirls Graduate From US High School

Two Chibok schoolgirls who escaped from Boko Haram militants have graduated from a high school in Washington D.C.

The two girls known simply by their first names Debbie and Grace graduated after completing junior year (11th grade) and senior year (12 grade) at a private school in the Washington metro area in America, Vanguard newspaper reports.

The medium said Debbie and Grace were part of the 57 girls who escaped from Boko Haram terrorists after the mass abduction of almost 275 schoolgirls in April 2014.

Unlike most of their colleagues who jumped out of the trucks en route Sambisa, the two were taken all the way to the terrorists camp in Sambisa before they escaped and made it back home in a terrifying journey that took about a week with their captors in hot pursuit.

Gunmen Kidnap Village Head, Wife, Children in Kaduna

Residents of Kagurdna, Kakau District of Chikun local government area of Kaduna State are living in fear following the abduction of 60-year old wife of the village head, Chief Amos Yerima by suspected Fulani gunmen.

The incident is said to have taken place Friday morning.
Though details are still sketchy, 35-year old son of the victim, Makama Nathan Yerima explained that a member of the vigilante was also shut dead while attempting to stop the armed men.

Dr Gideon Mshelbwala, the Director of Veterinary and Pest Control Services, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development raised the alert at a meeting with state Commissioners of Agriculture in Abuja on Friday.

Two officials of money-doubler ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mondial Movement, referred to as MMM, have been arrested at the instance of the Central Bank of Ghana.

The two were arrested in the process of luring unsuspecting customers to invest with them.

Speaking with newsmen, the Head of Microfinance Examinations Office at the Central Bank, Patience Yeboah-Nkansah said they will ensure the culprits are dealt with according to the law.
“The law empowers us that as soon as we hear of an institution engaged unlicensed microfinance activity, all we do is; we, first of all, act fast by closing down your institution. And then we made an announcement in the newspapers and then report you to the security agencies, and we hear they have nabbed two of their operators.”

According to the burial committee set up for late Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya, her remains will arrive Nigerian from Canada on Tuesday June 6, 2017 along with her new born baby girl.

Yomi Fabiyi, the Publicity Secretary for the burial committee issued a statement on the development that reads;

'The remains of the Late Moji Olaiya and her daughter will arrive Nigeria from Canada on Tuesday 6th June, 2017 (We will not like to go into details of the flight itinerary because of the baby involved, only the family and few friends will recieve them. Please bear with us).
