NURTW chieftain, Hamburger's wife, daughter arrive Nigeria from Dublin for his burial

The wife of NURTW chieftain killed in Shogunle on May 29 has returned to Nigeria with her eldest daughter, for the burial of her husband.

Alhaja Abolore Bello flew in from Dublin, Ireland, ahead of Aro Rasaq Bello's burial which has been slated for Friday 2 June.


A family source told P.M.Express that the wife came into Nigeria on Wednesday night with their first daughter, Kafayat, and they are currently staying with the deceased's mother in Odalume Street, Ladipo, Lagos.

Naira Appreciates By 2.1% To Close At 374 Per Dollar



Nigerian naira on Thursday appreciated by 2.13 per cent to close at 374 against the United States dollar at the parallel market as Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN intensify efforts to protect the value of the currency.

The currency maintained rate at 490 and 422 against the Pound sterling and Euro respectively at the black market segment.

At the official market, the naira depreciated by 0.02% against the dollar to close at N305.45 to a dollar while the Investors and Exporters foreign exchange Window rate opened at N380.44 and closed at N380.22 on the first today of June.

Abuja bombing: Court strikes out treason charge against Okah

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, today struck out one of the treason charge brought against the alleged mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombing, Charles Okah.

In dismissing the charge, Justice Kolawole said the evidence brought before his court did not prove that former President Jonathan, who was at Eagle Square when the incident happened, was intimidated by the attack.

Obaseki raises alarm over Suspected terrorists posing as herdsmen in Edo

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that suspected herdsmen raping and killing women in the state were terrorists that fled from fighting in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.

Two elderly women identified as Christiana and Matina were last week raped and killed at their various farms by the suspected herdsmen in Ewu community, Esan Central local government.
 
Earlier in March this year, traditional ruler of Ekperi, HRH Deke Yakubu Kanoba, the Ijiegbai of Ekperi, raised alarm that his subjects may not go to farm this farming season over presence of suspected runaway book haram members at a forest in his locality.

A group of young development activists’ penultimate weekend gathered in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, South South Nigeria for a Breakfast Luncheon to advance the plausible ideals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), and push new frontiers for youth voluntary involvement in community development. 

Acting under the aegis of SDG’s Ambassadors Advocacy Group, the youths drawn from about 28 Local government Areas of the State resolved to develop broad based partnership with other public/private sector initiatives to fast- track the achievement of the +30 global agenda for sustainable development. At the end, the Group inaugurated a protem Steering Committee to coordinate the affairs of the body towards realizing its objects.

Date for budget signing has not been fixed - Presidency says

The Presidency says no date has been fixed yet for the signing of the 2017 budget by the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo. Some media platforms earlier today reported that the 2017 budget would be signed into law by the acting president tomorrow Thursday June 1st.
However the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang, has denied the reports.

Nigerians Rate Buhari's Performance "Poor" as APC loses own poll

Too bad, it seems the APC led administration still doesn't believe many Nigerians are not happy with the way things are in the country at the moment, so they decided to test their popularity against the 2019 election, we guess.

A poll conducted by party,   sadly shows that Nigerians rated the performances of the administration as being very poor.




The online poll recorded about 14, 532 votes with 50% of the respondents rating the administration as poor; 35% rated the administration as average while 11% voted for excellent. 3% of the respondents were indifferent.

Facebook and WhatsApp group Admins could go to jail for offensive posts In India

According to a joint order issued by the district magistrate of Varanasi and the city’s police chief, offensive posts such as rumours or fake new circulated through WhatsApp or Facebook groups can land the group admin in jail. 

Varanasi DM Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and SP Nitin Tiwari recently issued a joint order that said an FIR (first investigation report) can be filed against a group administrator if factually incorrect, rumour or misleading information is circulated on his/her social media group. 

The order partly reads, “there are several groups on social media which are named on news groups and also groups with other names which are propagating news and information which is not authentic. These are being forwarded without cross-checking”.

South East Peoples Assembly Wants Court to Nullify Nnamdi Kanu's Bail

The South East Peoples Assembly, SEPA, has asked that Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu be sent back to prison.

In a letter dated May 31 and signed by its President, Prince Chukwuemeka Okorie, the urged the Chief Judge of the high court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, to as a matter of urgency, revoke Kanu’s bail.
According to SEPA, Nnamdi Kanu has continued to conduct himself in a manner that is totally at variance with terms and conditions of his bail, among which included that he must not hold rallies, grant interviews or be in a crowd of more than 10 people.

Senate Modifies Law Governing Operation of Nigeria Customs Service

The Nigeria senate has decided to amend and pass the Nigerian Customs Service Management Act 2017 in two days.  Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, during plenary said the amendment of the bill would bring the much-needed reforms to the Service.
 
In the new amendment, the senate scrapped the governing board of the Nigeria Customs Service and replaced it with the Nigerian Customs Commission.

Nigeria's Acting President Yemi Osinbajo recently announced that Nigerians will be able to own a home soon for as low as N30,000. [see here]

Barely 24 hours after comedian Kathy Griffin released an offensive photo of herself holding a decapitated head of President Trump, CNN announced that they've terminated her contract and she will no longer come back as a co-host of their annual New Year's Eve program even though Griffin has apologized.

Aomedian and TV host Kathy Griffin had tweeted a graphic photo shoot of herself holding up a bloody head mask of President Donald Trump.

The guy who claimed the man;s driver scratched his Jaguar, alighted from his car with his friends and launch a direct attack on the occupant of the car and immediately sped off. The matter is said to have been reported to the Maitama Police Station, while the man is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

A group of masquerades on Tuesday invaded a central mosque at Ikun Ekiti, a town under Moba LGA and beat up Muslims while breaking their fast.

The Muslims had gathered to observe the Maghrib prayer after breaking their Ramadan fast around 7pm.

Air Force bombs Boko Haram insurgents hiding under trees

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday said its newly acquired all-weather helicopter gunship, Mi-35M Super Hind, recorded its first hit in battle against the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.

Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore, Olatokunbo Adesanya  said on  21 May, NAF Component of Operation “LAFIYA DOLE” conducted an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission in Parisu, Borno which led to serious casualty on the side of the insurgents.
“During the ISR mission, a large structure with solar panels and flags suspected to harbour high value insurgents was discovered, alongside other similar structures hidden under trees.
