Herdsmen invade professor Wole Soyinka's home for the second time

Herdsmen have invaded the home of Nigerian writer, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and this will not be the first time such will happen. Last year, the Nobel laureate revealed that his home had been invaded by the herdsmen and hoped there will not be a repeat. Sadly, it's happened again.

The first time the herdsmen got into his home in Ogun State was in April last year. He said he was out of the country when it happened but came home to find that his home ground had been invaded and a motorable path was made by the hooves of cows through the grounds.

Nigerian Police to Senator Goje" Honour invitation now or we'll arrest you "

The Nigeria Police says it will arrest the lawmaker representing Gombe-Central senatorial district, Senator Danjuma Goje, if he continues to ignore its invitation.

Asked if Goje would be arrested if he continue to shun police invitation, Force PRO, Supol Jimoh Moshood, said, “Yes, nobody is above arrest. We will definitely do so and it is important for him to know that on time and appear before the police investigation team handling the matter.”

Edo entrepreneurs grateful for access to loans

Over twelve thousand beneficiaries across the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Edo state are financing their businesses with the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund (MSMEDF) in Edo state, made possible by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The MSMEDF, totalling over N1.8 billion, which represents the first tranche of the MSMEDF to Edo State Government, is a strategy by the state government to utilise the CBN’s developmental programmes and mandate of promoting a stable financial system for Nigeria.

APC Rejects Ex-Abia State Governor T.A. Orji

 According to reports from online sources, former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker and chieftain of the APC, Stanley Ohajiriuka, has warned former governor of the state, Theodore Orji against joining the national ruling party.

He called on the former governor, who is the senator representing Abia North Central District, to stay away from the APC.

Edo Govt. to make housing affordable

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, disclosed that his administration is set to build affordable houses in the state to address the over 300,000 housing deficit in the state.

This was during a 2-day workshop on housing themed: “Quest for Adequate and Sustainable Real Estate for Edo People” organized by the state government.

Gelegele: Obaseki warns communities against discord

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has warned the feuding indigent communities of the Gelegele area of Ovia North East Local Government Area against crisis, which could mar the progress of the project going on at the site of the multi-billion naira Export Processing Zone.
It would be recalled that the Oba of Benin and Governor Obaseki had both indicated interest in developing the area and setting it up for large-scale economic activities, but indigenes of Gelegele and Ughoton communities have since locked horns on issues relating to ownership of the land in the region.

Nigeria's Domestic Debt Hits 2.95tn - See How Much Each State Is Owing

The Debt Management Office (DMO) has said that the total domestic debt stock of the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as at December 31, 2016, stood at N2.958 trillion.

A breakdown of the indebtedness shows that Lagos, Delta and Akwa Ibom States topped the list with a domestic debt stock of N311.7 billion, N241.3 billion and N155.4 billion respectively.

Prominent Delta state politician allegedly dies in police custody [graphic photos]

A prominent politician in Delta state, Lucky Ayomanor, reportedly died in the custody of the police in Sapele, Delta state yesterday April 27th. According to reports, Ayomano who is a former Director-General of the state's Direct Labour Agency, was arrested on Wednesday April 26th for allegedly possessing a loaded firearm

He was said to be on his way to his elder brother's house in the Gana area of Sapele when he was arrested. He was detained and reportedly beaten up by the police officers in the state.

A witness told journalists in Yola Thursday that the Speaker got angry when the policeman complained about non-payment of his allowances. The Speaker grabbed the policeman and slapped him severally until the man was rescued by some security men around.

Nigeria's Electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it is yet to be formally informed of Senator Isiaka Adeleke’s death.

While addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday, INEC’s administrative secretary for the state, Mr Emmanuel Ademusire said the commission could not declare the seat of the deceased senator vacant because it was yet to be formally notified.

A mild drama occurred yesterday at the Nigeria Senate when a  Senator, George Sekibo representing  PDP Rivers  momentarily disrupted proceedings by whistle blowing on the controversial Ikoyi multi-billion cash find on the floor of the Senate.

Dr. Godwin Abonyi, President of the association, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, said that the dog would be awarded on the World Veterinary Day, WVD, tomorrow.

Obaseki renovates secretariat building

In line with his promise to improve working environment for civil servants in the state, Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has commenced renovation of the Secretariat buildings in Benin City, Edo State.

It would be recalled that Governor Obaseki had earlier inspected the secretariat building and promised to revamp it so that civil servants in the state could work in ultramodern environments with proper equipment.
