Gov. Obaseki to commission major link road this week



The Government of Edo State has announced the commissioning of a newly reconstructed road, Nevis Street, connecting Mission and Forestry Roads in Benin metropolis, calling on residents and citizens within the state to attend.

In a statement by Mr Taiwo Akerele, the Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, revealed that the governor would be the one to commission what he described as “the historically significant NEVIS Street” in the heart of Benin City, by 3pm on May 2, this year".


“The government is calling residents and supporters of good governance around Nevis Street, as well as party and religious leaders, non-governmental organisations, the academia, and other interested people to come, witness and support the commissioning of Nevis Street”.

It would be recalled that reporters in Benin City had earlier inspected nearly 29 roads in different stages of reconstruction and rehabilitation, with some being remodelled with concrete technology.




The government, meanwhile, had announced that it would construct over 3000km of roads.
Nevis Street would be the first to be commissioned of the refurbished roads. Others include Oba Eweka/Ogbetuo Oni Road, Osabuihien close GRA, Wire road, Nekpenekpen, Nevis road, Ugbor, Nekpenekpe, Oni Street, Jemide/Akhiobare and the popular Ikpokpan Road.
