Edo commences enforcement of town planning law, demolishes shopping complex

The Government of Edo state has declared its commitment to enforcing all physical and town planning laws in the state to restore integrity to the environment's masterplan, it was learnt on Thursday.

A statement endorsed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. John Mayaki said, “There are town planning rules and laws in the state, and nobody is bigger than the law. So, for the development of Edo state and to upgrade the people's standard of living, there should be full compliance from everyone to the law”.

Obaseki hails Edo school on Channels Kids Cup victory

Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Thursday, commended Paragon Demonstration School for recording a victory on the opening day of the ongoing Channels International Kids Cup, noting that the school had made the state proud.

A statement from the Office of the Chief Press Secretary disclosed that Governor Obaseki was particularly elated when news filtered into town that in one of the Group A matches, Paragon Demonstration School from Edo State got the better of X-Planter Primary School from Ikorodu in Lagos by a goal to nothing, courtesy a strike by Orobosa Aghahowa.

EFCC Goes After Patience Jonathan’s Assets

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to apply for the final forfeiture of choice properties allegedly owned by former First Lady Patience Jonathan.

The commission has been having difficulty in getting the original titles of the assets. They include Aridolf Resort, Wellness and Spa and eight others.

The anti-graft commission may ask the court to compel the agencies with the titles in Bayelsa and Rivers states to release them.

The assets in Bayelsa are two marble duplexes at Otioko GRA by Isaac Boro Expressway; a Glass House on Sani Abacha Expressway; Akemfa Etie Plaza by AP filling Station, Melford Okilo Road; and Aridolf Resort, Wellness and Spa on Sani Abacha Expressway.

Immigration arrests 400 illegal immigrants in Edo

Over 400 persons were on Wednesday arrested by Edo State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service for alleged illegal entry into the country.

The suspects were said to have been arrested during a mop-up exercise which started at about 4am on Wednesday across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Some of them, who were nabbed in Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha, Esan-West and Uhunmwode areas, had forced their way into Nigeria from neighbouring countries like Niger Republic, Mali and Chad.

Angry Hawkers Stone KAI Official To Death in Lagos

An official of the Lagos state Kick Against Indiscipline enforcement agency has been stoned to death by irate hawkers, a report by The Nation says. Moshood Ayeni, lost his life after angry hawkers who reacted to the arrest of their mates Jeremiah Nnana and Orich Nwofokoh who displayed their wares in traffic. He was stoned alongside his team at Iyana-Oworo area of Lagos.

In the press statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Alabi Rahmat, it was gathered that the mob pelted the KAI official vehicle with stones, one of which hit the deceased and fell him from the moving vehicle.

“The enforcement officials were returning from an assignment when they saw the traders and tried to do their jobs. They saw the traders hawking in traffic by Car Wash and arrested Jeremiah Nnana and Orich Nwofokoh both selling sausage and phone accessories.

Egypt blocks Al Jazeera and 20 other websites for "supporting terrorism"

Egypt has banned 21 websites including Al Jazeera television for “supporting terrorism”. The state news agency MENA and security sources made this known on Wednesday. All the banned websites are currently inaccessible in Egypt.

Egypt-focused websites hosted abroad such as Masr Al Arabiya, which describes itself as progressive and has no Islamist or Qatari affiliations, was also affected by the ban. An official from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority could not confirm or deny the news, but said:

Heartbreaking: Hungry Baby Sucks Breast From Mother's Dead Body [PHOTOS]

Unaware that his mother is dead, a toddler was seen desperately sucking his mother's breast for milk in. Police were called to report of a dead body near train tracks in Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh, India.

When officers arrived they saw a crowd around the woman and her crying 17-month-old baby.

Eyewitness account says the woman was seen lying near the railway track and informed the police. 'But when we got closer we spotted a child next to her crying and drinking her milk. It brought tears to our eyes.''

Officer Nand Ram, who is the head constable of the Government Railway Police, said: 'The toddler was crying for his mother and on receiving no response from her; he held her and started drinking milk from her.

Moji Olaiya's death certificate was issued in Canada yesterday - Yomi Fabiyi shares more details on her burial plans

Yomi Fabiyi, the publicity secretary of late Moji Olaiya's burial committee has shared more details about her burial and return of her body to Nigeria.

According to the actor, Moji Olaiya's birth certificate was issued yesterday and the government of Canada has also released her body to her brother a friend of the industry Mr Yinka Farinde for burial.

Edo set to improve primary education with technology

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has indicated his administration’s readiness to work with Bridge International Academies, which, yesterday, expressed interest in improving the standard of Primary School education with technology.

This was at the Edo State Government House in Benin City where the governor also restated his administration’s priority to continually upswing education standards in the state by consolidating on the work of the past government, which, he noted, had already improved infrastructure in primary schools by 60% and in secondary schools by 30%.

Gov Udom Inaugurates Coconut Refinery in Akwa Ibom

Governor Udom Emmanuel has inaugurated a coconut refinery in Akwa Ibom state to mark his second year in office.

The refinery is located at Mkpat-Enin, Obolo area of the state.
According to him, coconut was created by God with over 360 uses. He said the refinery will be completed in 18 months and promised to bring in more foreign investors who had declared interest in the project.

Court remands former NDDC official in prison for N3Billion scam

Kenyan youths exhume body 2months after being buried over land dispute

There was drama in Tieng’re, Kisumu County in Kenya as the body of a man buried almost two months ago on a disputed piece of land was on Tuesday exhumed following a directive issued by a High Court. 
Villagers at the scene who couldn't believe their eyes watched as youths hired by Gibson Onunga, who claims legal ownership of the disputed land, pulled out the casket containing remains of the late Ogada Ouko.
