OBA OF BENIN DOES NOT BAN ANYONE FROM USING HIS TALENT

"The attention of the Benin Traditional Council BTC has been drawn to a publication on the Art reviews page 36 of Vanguard of Monday May 15, 2017 captioned “ How the Oba of Benin banned my father from sculpturing.

"The story was credited to one Obasohan Osareti, a Painter and Sculpture whose workshop is located at Cane Village Maryland, Lagos. The event narrated by Osareti in that publication cannot be found in the history of Benin Kingdom.

In his narrative, Osareti failed to mention the very Oba that took such action against his father. However, to put the record straight, in 1926 that he quoted, Oba Eweka II was the reigning Oba, and in the Eweka Court that serves as the secretariat of the Benin Traditional Council in the Oba Palace Benin City, there is no such evidence either in writing or otherwise to prove Osareti's claim.
