Red Cross embarks on Community First Aid

The Edo State Branch of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, has embarked on a state-wide community First Aid training to sensitize the people on the need to render first help to accident victims rather break the news on Social Media.
 
Speaking during a sensitization rally yesterday to the state Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, the State Branch Chairman, Mr Festus Alenkhe, condemned the recent mistaken bombing of an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Borno State where some first aiders were killed.

Alenkhe described as unfortunate the trend where people will upload videos and pictures of accident scenes on social media rather than assist victims get quick medical care.

He stressed that first aid applications need to be inculcated into the minds of the indigenes across communities on how to help accident victims noting the rally was part of plans to mark the 2017 celebration of the world founder’s day.

"The Red Cross is embarked of community first aid because we have noticed that instead of people to assist accident victims to get immediate help, they bring out their phone and start taking videos and pictures. So we need to change that orientation". He stated.

On his part, the NUJ Chairman Sir Rolland Osakue gave the Council support to the members and leadership the Red cross stating that they are partners in progress.

"We believe that the Red Cross and the NUJ are partners in Progress". He declared.
