Obaseki congratulates Clark at 90

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has joined many notable Nigerians, especially in the political circle, to congratulate a distinguished Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, as he clocks age 90.
 
In his congratulatory message to the elder statesman, Governor Obaseki described him as “a seasoned administrator, great politician, elder statesman, dynamic Ijaw leader, university proprietor and educationist, lawyer and advocate of the people, and solid bridge builder across Nigeria”. All of these, he pointed out, are landmark avenues through which the respected leader has contributed to his people, the Southsouth Region, and to Nigeria.

The governor praised Chief E. K. Clark for his unwavering commitment to the struggles for justice and fairness for minority groups and for the progress of Nigeria.

He wished him “great vigour and sound health, and sagehood” as he takes his place among other eminent nonagenarians. He implored him to continue to give of himself in service to the overall good of humankind. Nigeria at present, the governor observed, is in dire need of the insights and wisdom of elders like Chief Clark.

Chief E. K. Clark, the founder of Edwin Clark University (ECU) Kiagbodo, Delta State, was born on May 25, 1927, at Eriawvarien in the present Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

From local to national levels, Chief E. K. Clark has held varied positions which included Federal Commissioner for Education, Finance and Establishment, Federal Minister for Information and National Orientation, Senator, among a couple of other prominent ones.

An alumnus of the Holbom College of Law, London, he was called to the Bar in England as a member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
