Xenophobia: Obaseki condemn attack on Nigerians

The Edo State Governor Mr Godwin Obaseki yesterday condemned in entirety the attack on Nigerians living in South Africa as a result of their fear for foreigners.

Obaseki during a courtesy visit by members of Alumna Association of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (AANI) in Benin City, the Edo State Capital urged the Federal Government,
Foreign Affair Ministry and the South Africa government to protect Nigerians in that Country and not watch them brutalized.




Governor Obaseki described that the sufferings and inhuman treatment melted on Nigerians and other foreigners in Libya and South Africa as unbearable and urged Africa leaders to ensure the attacks are stopped.

“As a country, we should not and must not continue to seat idle and allow our citizens to be maltreated doing nothing. We in Edo State condemn it and calling on Federal Authority especially our Foreign Affairs Ministry to ensure that they don’t take the issue of our citizens for granted as a lot of our people have been maltreated and subjected to inhuman treatment in Libya”.



“I join you to call on the Federal Government that the welfare of our citizens abroad particularly in the Continent is what we should take seriously as a nation” he concluded.

Earlier the President of AANI Rtd Major General Lawrence Onoja expresses his delight and thanks the governor and the people of the state on the hospitality they have received since coming into the state.

He said AANI is confident in the leadership ability of Obaseki will deepen the development agenda and consolidate on the remarkable past achievement adding that they would partner with the government to realize its vision for the people of the state in terms of job creation, Agriculture Economic Empowerment, Health, Education, Structural development, water and Beautification.
