INEC Finally Smells the Coffin, Declares Jimoh Ibrahim PDP Candidate for Ondo Gov Election [see full list of candidates]
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has finally woken up to realities and declared Jimoh Ibrahim as the authentic candidate of the PDP for the upcoming governorship election in the state after a long chain of controversy.
INEC’s decision is in apparent obedience to a ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja which ordered that Mr. Ibrahim be used to replace Eyitayo Jegede.

The decision of the electoral commission also comes despite another court ruling on Thursday by an Akure High Court which ordered that Mr. Jegede still be retained as the candidate of the party.
Mr. Jegede emerged the candidate in a primary conducted by the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the PDP while Mr. Ibrahim won the primary by the Ali Sheriff faction of the party.
The Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, however stated the reason INEC chose to go with Jimoh Ibrahim as PDP's governorship candidate in the upcoming Ondo elections despite a court order recognizing Eyitayo Jegede as the authentic candidate.
“We received a court order from the High Court in Akure and that was yesterday(Wednesday), but there was a subsisting one by Justice Abang today(Thursday), that is what happened,” Mr. Agbaje said.
He said another court order can however upturn the situation.
“The situation will continue that way until the matter is decided by the Supreme Court if the parties choose to proceed to the apex court," he said, adding that the politicians had put themselves into a tight corner by jumping from one high court to another instead of going to the Court of Appeal.
“Now they have to go on appeal at a higher court,” he said. “They are the ones undoing themselves and like I said, we do not have any candidate. We will only abide by the laws guiding the process.”
