The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo, Mr Sam Olumekun, yesterday said collation of results for the governorship election in the state would commence on Thursday. Olumekun disclosed this in Benin on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting with a National Commissioner and two Resident Electoral Commissioners at 11.20 p.m. He, however, did not give reasons for the shift in date for the exercise.
Meanwhile, the PDP in Edo State in a reaction, has condemned in strong terms and rejected the call by INEC to suspend the collation of results.
According to PDP,
This
call is shocking as we have consistently warned that INEC and the
Governor are planning to rig the elections at the point of collation and
instead of completing this assignment, INEC is creating more
uncertainty and distrust .
We want to state
emphatically that the PDP will not accept any attempt by anybody to
manipulate the results which we already have and coasting home to
victory. The ongoing process must be concluded and the result declared
accordingly.
Meanwhile, we want to commend Edo people for turning out to exercise their franchise just as we had enjoined them to do.
The PDP shares with Edo people the eagerness to have the result of the ongoing process announced promptly.
