Edo State former SSG and others remanded in Prison over N77.8 million fraud

A High Court seating in Benin the capital city of Edo State today  has remanded former Secretary to Edo State Government Simon Imuekemhe and three other SUBEB officials of over an allegation of financial recklessness to the tune of N77.8 million during their tenure in office.

The former SSG,  former chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board Joseph Eoabino, the former Secretary, David Igbinoba and Director of Finance and Accounts, Aghator Efe were arraigned in court on an eight charge over corrupt practices and other related offences contrary to section 22 (5) of the EFCC Act 2000.....


while Counsel to the defendants prayed to court  to uphold administrative bail granted the defendant, the prosecuting counsel was of the view that court could only grant bail in accordance with stipulated conditions which had however elasped.

The trial judge Razaq Isenalume on the other hand ordered all accused persons to be remanded in prison pending the hearing of the bail application and adjourned the case to March 14th 2014.

however what would appear most dramatic in the whole court process was the accused who instead of being led by Prison warders in black-maria to the prisons where they ought to serve till the said date, the accused were however seen driving away in their various jeeps and assorted vehicles  with their private securities.
