A cybercrime ring allegedly hacked into computers at some of America’s biggest data companies, according to a cybersecurity news website.
KrebsOnSecurity, which first reported the breaches on Wednesday after a seven-month investigation, linked the attacks to a group known for selling stolen social security numbers, credit reports and other sensitive information through the website ssndob.ms, or SSNDOB.
Two of the firms mentioned in the report, Dun & Bradstreet Corp and Kroll Background America, said they were investigating the attacks, while LexisNexis said it has not found any evidence of theft so far.
SSNDOB planted malicious software on severs at LexisNexis as early as five months ago, KrebsOnSecurity reported.
