Nigeria Customs Services claims it generated N1.01trillion revenue in 2017

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Customs Service, Mr Joseph Attah revealed that 2017 has seen the agency rake in N1.01trillion in revenue. He made this known during a media briefing held at the Customs headquarters in Abuja where he also disclosed that the sum is N241.68bn higher than the target of N770.57bn set for the 2017 year and far outstrips the N898.67bn collected in 2016.

He said:

“With dogged implementation of the Presidential mandate to restructure, reform and raise revenue, Nigeria Customs Service has recorded the highest revenue collection ever of N1,012,259,006,779.94 with five more working days to the end of 2017.”

Attah said the record revenue sum was achieved thanks to measures introduced by comptroller general, Hameed Ali. Speaking on anti-smuggling operations, he disclosed that the agency recorded over 4,000 assorted seizures worth over N11bn in value.
The seizures, according to him, include 2,671 pump action rifles, dangerous drugs, rice and vehicles among others.
