Impeachment proceedings have been halted against President Mugabe as he has unexpectedly resigned. This was announced by the speaker of the parliament, Jacob Mudenda
Zimbabwean vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to be sworn in as president tomorrow or Thursday.
The chief whip of ruling party Zanu-PF, Lovemore Matuke, said Mr Mnangagwa would serve the remainder of Mugabe's term.
Under the current schedule, the next general elections could be held as late as September 2018.
