Nigerian pilot found dead outside downed plane in Florida [photo]

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a single engine plane that had been reported missing and was found in the Florida Everglades, along with the pilot, Mark Ukaere’s body.

Ukaere, a pilot in Nigeria, went to Dean International Flight School for an advanced certification. The Cessna 152 was spotted late Wednesday in a swampy area southwest of Miami, with the body of Ukaere alongside the debris.

Ukaere was the only person  on board the plane. According to Miami-Dade Police, they received a call from the owner of Dean International Flight School regarding the missing plane at 10:19 p.m., Wednesday, and dispatched an Air Rescue unit.

Ukaere’s roommates said he is a licensed pilot working on an advanced certification. According to Robert Dean, the owner of the flight school, the pilot took off without permission at 8:50 p.m.

Some industry experts however insist that Dean’s claim is impossible, saying that an aircraft can’t be taken for a flight without authorization or air traffic control clearance. They claim Dean may be trying to avoid a lawsuit that may bring the training school into a huge debt.

The downed Cessna is the same plane that made an emergency landing on Tamiami Trail in Collier County, back in December 2015. Dean said Ukaere was not supposed to be flying in the dark without a co-pilot. “He took off, and he went to what’s basically called ‘the black hole,’” he said.
