Obaseki commiserates with Otaru, Momoh family


Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has sent his heartfelt condolences to the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh (Ikelebe III) and the entire Momoh family on the passing of Professor Abubakar Momoh, who was of the royal family.

Late Professor Momoh, who died in the early hours on Monday, was described by the governor as a “bright mind and a worthy son of the rich Momoh heritage whose contribution to the academia and to politics was remarkably significant”.
Momoh, until his death, was a Professor and Director General of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Electoral Institute having served as the Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences at the Lagos State University, LASU.

Governor Obaseki said: “I cannot imagine the loss that the sacred kingdom feels concerning the passing of Professor Abubakar, but I am shocked and grieved in my heart. He was one of those, who flew the flag of Edo State both within and beyond the bounds of the entire country. He was royal, not only in lineage, but in thinking”.

The governor added that Momoh’s legacies both in the Electoral Institute and in the academia, including the many universities where he had lectured, and urged the Momoh family to bear the loss with courage”.

“It is never a happy thing to lose someone you love and cherish, but I urge the family and friends of the late Momoh to bear his loss with good courage and take comfort in the knowledge that the entire Edo State and even Nigeria will not forget the legacy of their relative and friend,” he said.

  1. Professor Abubakar Momoh was my lecturer in Lagos State University, Ojo Lagos. He impacted so much knowledge in us . A great Scholar a Professor of Professors. We love you but God loves you more my hero mentor and an erudite Scholar that will remain evergreen in my heart. I am happy and fulfilled to be one of your students. RIP sir.
