The Senate President, Bukola Saraki read a letter from the caucus of the APC at the end of Tuesday's plenary.
Saraki said, "The APC caucus has written to me announcing the change of leadership of the caucus. They have named Ahmed Lawan as the leader".
It was not clear whether Lawan is replacing Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno) who has been occupying the position of the Senate Majority Leader.
When contacted, Ndume said he was not aware of the situation.
"I still remain Senate Leader, '' Ndume claimed during a press briefing with National Assembly correspondents on Tuesday.
He added that he was not aware of his removal by the APC Senate Caucus because he had no knowledge of when the decision to remove him was taken.
