Uniben students in solidarity with ASUU take to street on a peaceful protest

54 days into the Academic Staff Union of Universities  (ASUU) strike, the students of the university of Benin in collaboration with Edo State Civil Society Groups have taking to the streets in Benin in what they termed a peaceful solidarity protest in support of ASUU. The students Union body appealed to the Federal Government to meet the demands of ASUU as they beleive ASUU is not outrageous in their demands, and gave a one  week ultimatum for Federal Government to meet their demands or face a full blown protest at Abuja. The students marched from the university of Benin to the House of Assembly and later converged at the NUJ secretariat to press home their demands.

In a similar development,  the Joint Action Front has called on students nation wide to mobilised at all level to save public education. In statement signed by its Secretary Comrade  Biodun Aremu, in line with the protest billed to hold today Tuesday 27th, in Calabar at the Freedom (Botanical Garden) Park Mary Slassor road declared that similar rallies would follow up up in Kano, Ibadan, Oweri, Port harcourt, Abuja and other states untill government yields to the demands of ASUU. He said the rallies are built towards a nation wide mass protest that would become inevitable should government remain insensitive.
