NDLEA Reacts to Allegations of Harassment by Patience Jonathan


The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Monday denied allegations that it was “harassing” a former first lady, Patience Jonathan.
 
In a statement by its spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the anti-narcotics agency said it did not harass citizens.

Jonathan had petitioned the House of Representatives last week alleging harassment of her family by security agencies. She had included NDLEA and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in the charge.

Igbos own 70% of Plateau’s new Certificates Of Occupancy – Governor Lalong

Nigeria's former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has accused the EFCC of trying to eliminate her.

According to her, the anti graft agency has bugged her phone and has sent assassins after her on two separate occasions.
In a letter written by her lawyers, Granville Abibo (SAN) & Co, Mrs. Jonathan said, “There have been assassination attempts, at least twice, between February and April, 2017, against our client ostensibly by the operatives of the EFCC along the Yenagoa-Mbaima Road, Bayelsa State, in furtherance of its unlawful actions against the former first family.”

Leader of Nigeria's secessionist group, Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has been cautioned against unwanted utterances in his Biafra agitations.

Head of the Enugu Province of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Chukwuma, gave the warning in an interview with the Sun Newspaper. "The way Nnamdi Kanu and his team are going about the Biafra agitation, is nothing to write home about." the cleric said.


“He did not see the civil war, so I’m not happy with him. I am bitter with Kanu because those who fought for him and those who spoke out on his behalf. He has not even visited some of us. Rather he is talking rubbish somewhere else,” the clergy said.

Etisalat Nigeria Releases Statement Over Change Of Brand Name

Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Ltd. trading as Etisalat Nigeria on Tuesday informed its customers that the change of brand name will not affect its operations.

The Vice President, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, EMTS, Mr Ibrahim Dikko, in a statement said that EMTS was aware of recent news reports regarding Etisalat Group’s withdrawal of the right to the continued use of the Etisalat brand in Nigeria by EMTS.
He said that EMTS had a valid and subsisting agreement with the Etisalat Group.

Legendary Russian spy, Yuri Drozdov who planted ‘Illegals’ in other countries dies at 91

Yuri Drozdov, a Soviet superspy who played a role in key events of the Cold War, from Berlin to Kabul, and masterminded a mysterious network of K.G.B. operatives known as the “illegals,” has died at the age of 91.

Supreme Court Victory: Obaseki appreciates Buhari, Osinbajo, Oshiomhole, others

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, on Monday, expressed profound appreciation to the president of Nigeria and the people of Edo state over the affirmation of his declaration as the state's elected governor by the Supreme Court, noting that the apex court's judgement "invariably validates the perfection of the triumph of the will of the people and establishes the masses as the true and ultimate power of democracy" in the state.
 
The governor revealed in a statement that the validation of his victory was stronger because both the Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal gave verdicts, which mirrored the Supreme Court's judgement, and confirmed that truth indeed was immutable.

Man Stabs Co-tenant for Advising Him to Stop Smoking

29-year-old trader, Ndubuisi Oni, who allegedly stabbed a co-tenant, one Joseph George, with a broken bottle on the stomach, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Oni, a resident of Oke-Odo area of Ikeja, is standing trial on a charge of grievous harm.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 15, at their tenement building.
 
Unah alleged that the accused assaulted the complainant by beating him up and stabbing him with a broken bottle on the stomach.

Police Warns of increase number of cases of passengers and drivers being drugged and Robbed in Enugu

The Police Command in Enugu State has raised alarm over increasing cases of passengers and drivers being drugged and disposed of their belongings and vehicles by unscrupulous elements in the state.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said this in a statement on Monday in Enugu.

The Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PRESCOM) has carried out a symbolic destruction of about 700 weapons recovered from cattle rustlers in Katsina State. 

Speaking at the arms destruction programme which held at the 35 Battalion, Nacinta Barracks, Katsina, on Monday, PRESCOM’s Chairman, Amb. Emmanuel Imohe, noted that there were well over 690 million illicit arms and light weapons in circulation across the world with about eight million of them traceable to the West African sub-region.
The arms destruction programme was part of activities to mark the 2017 edition of the United Nations Arms Destruction Day.

Nigerian Army Inaugurates Cantonment Named After Buhari


 The Nigerian Army on Monday inaugurated locally fabricated Infantry Patrol Vehicles (IPV) to strengthen troops’ operations nationwide.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has issued a notice of verification for the recall of Dino Melaye from the Nigeria senate.

Armed Robbers Attack Filling Station In Anambra, kill Cashier

Ebonyi State Governor Advocates Death Penalty For Kidnappers

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, in Abakaliki on Monday said death penalty as punishment for kidnapping was the way to deter people from the crime.

The governor who spoke during an anti-corruption summit organised by the state government with the theme ‘Institutionalisation of Good Governance for Sustainable Development’ also said corruption accounts for the high rate of kidnapping across the country.
