Edo to set up Hajj committee And Muslim Welfare Board

The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, disclosed that his administration would expedite the constitution of a Hajj Committee and a Muslim Welfare Board to facilitate the creation of a structure for Muslims intending to travel for the Hajj, this year.

He made this revelation as he broke the Ramadan fast with eminent Edo Imams at the Government House in Benin City where he also declared that his government would build a strong and united state, and engender safety and security to contribute to the economic development of the state.

Communing with the religious leaders, he said: “This is a night of fellowship with our Muslim brothers, as we join them in prayers during this period. I thank you for taking time out to come and break your fast here in Government House. We are happy to receive you and we will continue to join you in prayers. Know that Allah in his infinite mercies will speedily answer our prayers".

More facts emerged, yesterday, about the circumstances that led to the location of the residence of the kidnap kingpin leading to his arrest, last Saturday.


Sources attributed it to an informant residing in Magodo and intelligence reports that revealed identities of his three girlfriends. It was gathered that after the Inspector-General of police deployed his Intelligence Response Team to track the notorious kingpin, they made huge progress from the documents recovered from his hideout in Igando, Lagos after the miraculous disappearance of his last victim.
 
The documents reportedly aided them in identifying occupants of that apartment and opened an avalanche of information leading to Evans movement. That was how they discovered that he lives at Magodo area of Lagos State, while other members were also residing in Lagos, Rivers, Abuja, Edo and Anambara States.

Seven girls disguised in Hijab arrested in Katsina on their way to Europe

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) command in Katsina state, arrested seven girls using hijab to disguise in a bid to evade arrest, as they attempted to travel illegally through the state to Europe.

Parading the girls, the Comptroller of Immigration in the state, Mohammed Yaro Rabiu, said the hijab was used by the girls to camouflage and get easy passage at the border.


“All the rescued victims are Nigerians from Edo State and will be handed over to NAPTIP for further action,” he said The girls are part of the 40 persons that have been arrested in the last four months as they attempted to flee Nigeria using various legal and illegal routes to Agadez in Niger Republic en route Libya then Europe.

Kano APC expels suspended lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin

The All Progressives Congress(APC) chapter in Bebeji local government area of Kano state has expelled suspended House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin who represents them at the legislative chambers. Chairman of the APC in the local government, Sani Ranka, announced his suspension today at a press briefing held at the party's secretariat in Kano.

Ranka said the expulsion is as a result of Jibrin's anti-party activities that can cause division in the party.

Obaseki shuns ceremony, laments decay in Edo College

Edo state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, shunned a well-decorated reception in Abudu, the administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon Local Government Area, to register his displeasure with the locals over the deplorable condition of Esigie Comprehensive College, an outreach of College of Education, Ekiadolor.

The Governor, accompanied by the members representing Orhionmwon East, and Orhionmwon South Constituencies, Hon. Nosayaba Okunbor and Hon. Roland Asoro respectively, and the interim Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mallam Ali Sulayman, inspected the facility on Thursday morning.

Expressing his disappointment with residents of the area, he declared that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which would serve as a guarantee from the community, must be signed before the state would commit resources to refurbish the school.
