Edo Govt, Okomu Park partner on forest preservation

The Government of Edo State has revealed that it would collaborate with the management of Okomu Natural Park to ensure the preservation and protection of the rain forest park and its wildlife, while also assuring the management of the establishment that the state would monitor logging activities and encroachment into the park.

This was on Tuesday at the Edo State Government House, where the state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, urged the management to furnish the state government with information on illegal activities in the park.

Noting that the park was a heritage in the state and its conservation was paramount to promote its ecotourism potentials and artistic value, the governor reiterated that his administration was committed to baulking environmental degradation and deforestation within the rain forest zones in the state.

Council officials absent as Obaseki storms Egor LG

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, paid a surprise visit to Egor Local Government Council by 8:20AM, where he vowed to punish senior officials for late coming and dereliction of duty, adding that the late officials, who did not have cogent explanations, would be suspended, while snap checks would be conducted every day by 8:00am and 4:00pm.

Of 599 staff members, only 36 were on ground 20 minutes after the official resumption time, leading to the suspension of the Head of Administration, Mrs. Rachael Iriefo, even as the governor recalled that Egor was the most indebted Local Government in the last administration.

He said: “You see, they do not come to work, but at the end of the month, their bill is almost N50m for salaries, outside of teachers. No senior person is here, no Head of Service; so how can they manage the Local Government?”

Edo to unveil technical education for graduates

Opportunities for skill acquisition would soon to be open to graduates in Edo as the State government promised, on Wednesday, to launch platforms on technical education for graduates to become independent employers of labour.

This was disclosed by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, at the Edo State Government House in Benin City during an interactive session with the management team of Seven Up Bottling Company Nigeria Plc., led by Victor Oladele, the General Manager of Seven Up Bottling Company Nigeria Plc., Benin zone, who expressed interest in joining to make Edo state an economic hub

The management team also applauded the leadership style of the present administration, especially its policies aimed at encouraging investors in the state.

Olaiya passed on in Canada on May 18, 2017, at the age of 42, after alleged complications from second child birth. 

Edo Gov’s CPS bags NANS award

In recognition of his contribution to journalism and media relations, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Edo State Governor, Mr John Mayaki, was, on Wednesday, awarded as “International Diaspora Icon of Peace, Patriotism and National Development” by the European Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Cyprus.

He said: "You have tasked me to climb another rung on the ladder of leadership responsibility and service to humankind. You have clearly encouraged me not to rest on my oars in giving more of myself and resources to the continual wellness of our society. The challenge, I assure you, is well taken."

Exhorting the students, he advised them to study to contribute to the uplifting of Nigeria and humanity in general urging them to never be satisfied with whatever is less than excellent because there was no place for the slothful, the mediocre, the laggard, and the uncreative minds in the country anymore.

Keke NAPEP riders in Delta state  staged a protest in the state capital following a decision by the state's Ministry of Transport to sell to them a waste basket at N2,500.

According to the drivers, the waste basket is being sold for N200 at the local market but the transport ministry officials are compelling them to buy from them at N2500 each.


"The Small Basket is been sold to us for 2,500 by Ministry of Transport. We can't buy from the market except the once they are selling for to us for 2,500. Basket is not more than 200 in the market. Landlord confiscates tenant's pot of Chicken soup over unpaid rent in Cameroon

An aggrieved landlord over the weekend shocked one of his tenants by confiscating the pot of chicken soup his wife had been cooking over 6months rent. According to Cameroon-concord, the incident took place at Bassa neighborhood in Douala, Cameroon.

Efforts made by other tenants to convince the landlord to hand over back the pot of chicken soup was met with stiff resistance.
When asked why he took such extreme measure, the landlord bitterly said: “this man has money to prepare chicken but does not have money to pay for his rents, has not paid his rents for the past six months.

Osinbajo writes Senate, seeks approval of $1.49bn loan for 10 states

Acting  President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has written the Senate, seeking approval of foreign loan to the tune of $1.492,400,000.00 for projects and other programmes in 10 states of the federation.

The request contained in a letter read by Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, on the floor of the Senate, yesterday, which forms part of 2016-2018 External Borrowing Plan earlier sent to the upper chamber.

EFCC arraigns three ‘Ghost Workers’ for N9.7m fraud {Photos}

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday arraigned the trio of Onukaogu Onyinyechi Esther, Ebenuwa Chinazo Jennifer and Onukaogu Joshua before Justice A. S. Adepoju of the FCT High court sitting in Wuse, Abuja, on a 13-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence.

Esther allegedly abused her office while being a staff of Soft Alliance, consultants to the office of the Auditor General of the Federation on IPPIS between 2012 and 2013, to input her name and two of her siblings (Jennifer and Joshua) into the IPPIS database as staff of Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Works respectively, for the purpose of receiving salaries from the federal government.

APC Chieftain Suspended for Disrespecting Rotimi Amaechi

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers state, Chief Allwell Onyesoh, has been suspended for disrespecting Nigeria's Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi.

Chief Allwell is from the APC caucus in Etche LGA of the state. Former member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, has been appointed in his stead as interim chairman.

“Our brother and friend, Allwell Onyesoh, has become reckless in so many ways in his desperate reactions to sensitive matters, which ordinarily should call for great caution, tact, and understanding," a statement issued by the caucus said.
“Similarly, he has chosen where reason ought to be needful, to exhibit great disrespect to and disregard for the person of our indisputable leader and Minister of Transportation, the Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

Bank Robbers Uproot ATMs in Osun State, Kill 3 Policemen

Bank robbers on Tuesday evening attacked three banks close Bowen University, causing mayhem.

According to reports, some of the automated teller machines at the banks were removed but its not clear if they were taken away.

A resident said the streets were deserted as robbers and policemen exchanged fire during the operation.
