The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has listed notable Nigerian political leaders, corporate entities and other Brands for its 2017 Honours Award billed to hold in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital later in the month of June. 
Amongst those listed for honours are the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike nominated for NANS Governor of the Year Award and the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON nominated for the NANS Outstanding Personality of the Decade Award.

Obaseki congratulates Clark at 90

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has joined many notable Nigerians, especially in the political circle, to congratulate a distinguished Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, as he clocks age 90.
In his congratulatory message to the elder statesman, Governor Obaseki described him as “a seasoned administrator, great politician, elder statesman, dynamic Ijaw leader, university proprietor and educationist, lawyer and advocate of the people, and solid bridge builder across Nigeria”. All of these, he pointed out, are landmark avenues through which the respected leader has contributed to his people, the Southsouth Region, and to Nigeria.

FFK releases statement on the raiding of the home of the Deputy Senate president, Ekweremadu

I just finished speaking to the Deputy Senate President and he confirmed to me that his home was raided by security forces today. This is shameful and shocking. Edo First Lady launches Child Protection Policy

The Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, on Thursday, launched the Edo Child Protection Policy to strengthen the child protection system in the state.

Launching the policy book with executive members of the Edo Children Parliament and members of the State’s Child Right Implementation Committee at the Edo State Government House in Benin City, she expressed delight that Edo pioneered the development and launch of such a policy in Nigeria.

In addition, the governor’s wife noted that the Obaseki-led administration prioritised child protection and provision of quality education for Edo children, as well as vocational education for students to facilitate skill acquisition and self-reliance.

NDLEA arrests Ghanaian man and accomplices with N60m worth of cannabis

A Ghanaian man and accomplices, have been arrested by NDLEA officials with Seme Border Command of the agency, intercepting 5,863kg of compressed dried weeds that tested positive for cannabis.
It was gathered that the illicit drug consignments originating from the republic of Ghana through the water ways, were seized in two separate operations at Badagry, Lagos State.

School feeding programme: Edo set to collaborate with private firm

The Edo State Government has revealed that it may collaborate with Dufi Prima Food Plc, a private firm, to domesticate and implement the Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Taiwo Akerele, made this known in Benin City on Friday as he received the management team of Dufi Prima Food Plc at the Edo State Government House where the food company indicated its interest to collaborate with the state government on the Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

Commending the initiative of the company, the governor revealed that the state government would draw out a plan in line with the state’s procurement law on engaging service providers to bid for the Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

Rotimi Amaechi rejects Wike's award, says it’s ‘a Poisoned Chalice’

 As part of its 50 years anniversary, Gov. Nyesom Wike organized a Grand Service Star award to be conferred on past leaders of the state, including Rotimi Amaechi for the development they brought to the state while still in office.

However, the immediate past Governor of the State and Nigeria’s Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the Grand Service Star of Rivers State award to be conferred on him by his political opponent, Nyesom Wike, claiming he has not even received a letter from the state government inviting him to the award ceremony, and also labelling the award as a poisoned chalice.

The Final Burial Ceremony of Veteran Nollywood Actor, Olumide Bakare held in Ibadan, Oyo State today.

Family Friends and colleagues of the deceased actor were all present at the burial ceremony to pay their last respect to the actor who was respected throughout his career in the Industry.

Edo First Lady, MWAN to establish health facilities

The Wife of the Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki has disclosed that the Office of the First Lady would collaborate with the state’s chapter of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) to establish a Well Women Clinic in the state.

Mrs Obaseki also assured of the state government’s support to collaborate with the Association to establishment of a youth friendly centre to handle reproductive and other health issues of adolescents and youths.

Obaseki Inaugurates ICD, TTP Project Committee

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has inaugurated the Edo Inland Container Deport (ICD) and Truck Transit Park (TTP) Implementation Committee, mandating them to uptick economic activities in the state.

Inaugurating the eight-man committee, chaired by Engineer Charles Akhighe, Governor Godwin Obaseki said members of the team were chosen without partisan invidiousness, but that their technical knowledge and experience as experts selected them.

INEC Accuses Gov Yahaya Bello Of Double Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has accused Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello of double registration for Permanent Voter Card, as against the electoral law.

A statement by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Prince Solomon Soyebi, said Bello’s second registration was done on Tuesday at the Government House in Lokoja, outside the designated centre for ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

The statement reads; “It has come to the attention of INEC that Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello registered as a voter for the second time on Tuesday May 23, at Government House in Lokoja.

Fake Soldier Kills 25-Year-Old Man During Argument

A fake soldier, Victor Oluwole, has been arrested by police in Plateau State for allegedly stabbing to death a 25-year-old resident, Pokyes Danladi, in West of Mines community in the Jos North Local Government Area.

It was learnt that the incident, which happened on Sunday, had caused tension in the community, as Oluwole’s gang members had threatened to wreak havoc.

According to Punch, Pokyes’ mother, 60-year-old Martha Danladi, is hospitalised over the shock of her son’s death at the Nigeria Police Clinic in Jos.

Fayose condemns DSS continued detention of Ifeanyi Ubah, Says; “DSS now FG’s terror gang”

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the Department of State Services (DSS) continued detention of the Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Ifeanyi Ubah as tyrannical, barbaric, reckless and irresponsible display of power, saying; “Within two years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) government, the DSS has become the government’s terror gang, disobeying court orders with impunity.”
The governor, who said the DSS claim that Ubah’s offence was punishable by death was reckless and alarming, added that “the DSS has now become law unto itself, dragging Nigeria back to 1984 when Decree 2 was used by the National Security Organisation (NSO) to dump Nigerians in detention without trial.”

"No Hope For Nigeria's Power Sector" - Senate Says

The Nigeria Senate had a critical talk and review of the progress made after privatization of the Power Sector following a debate and discussions on a motion moved by Senator Dino Melaye, entitled “DISCOs, electricity consumers and the burden of over-billing.”

As the Senate began talks on the power sector in Nigeria on Wednesday a very gloomy picture was painted by senators who came to the conclusion that there was no hope of Nigeria coming out of its
present power crisis.

The Senate, which noted that the power sector was in dire need of emergency response, said Nigerians would not have steady power supply because the distribution companies were bankrupt and could not, therefore, procure meters.

Benue Pensioner Commits Suicide Because of Hardship

Frustrated, a Benue state pensioner has committed suicide because of being poor.

Mr. Gabriel Nomsha, hanged himself a week ago because he couldn't afford to feed his family and pay his children's school fees according to Chairman of the Coalition of Local Government Pensioners,’ Mike Vembe.

He explained that after the deceased had been screened, he came with the hope of collecting his pension but was disappointed when he wasn’t paid.

FG Proposes Highest Salary Scale For Teachers Nationwide

Federal government has said it is working on a proposal to enable teachers earn the highest starting salaries among all other civil servants.

Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu on Thursday said the move was to attract the best graduates into the teaching profession.
Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Anwukah, Adamu made the comment during the inauguration ceremony of the Governing Councils of 21 Federal Colleges of Education.

Ambode 'Sacks' Lagos Chaplain For Disrespecting Wife During Anointing Service

  Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state reportedly ordered the sack the Presiding Chaplain, Venerable Femi Taiwo.

According to PUNCH, Taiwo got the sack on Monday, May 15, without any query or official reason stated in the sack letter.

Court Orders DSS To Release Ifeanyi Ubah Within 48 Hours

  A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday ordered the Department of State Service, DSS, to within 48 hours release detained Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah.

Trial judge, Justice Mohammed in a 100 page judgment, ordered the DSS to release Ubah, if it fails to file a charge against him.

Man Sets Lover Ablaze In Port Harcourt Over Infidelity

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one David for setting his lover ablaze over accusations of infidelity.

Spokesman of the Command, Nnamdi Omoni in a statement alleged that David emptied a keg of kerosene on his lover, Uchechi Okorie and set her ablaze.

He said Uchechi was badly burnt, adding that she was currently being treated at a private hospital.

Anambra state government official, Kenneth Okonkwo aka Ocha dies after his car falls into a ditch [graphic photos]

Head of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra state, Kenneth Okonkwo aka Ocha, died following complications from an injury he sustained after his car plunged into a ditch along one of the roads in the state yesterday. Manchester clubs, Man U and Man City have put aside their age long rivalry to dole out financial support to families of the victims of the Manchester terror attacks on Monday that killed 22 people and injured 64 people.

Both clubs have donated £1m to the 'We Love Manchester Emergency Fund', designed to assist the families and dependents of the victims- and the donation from City and United increases the total amount of donations to beyond £3m.

Governor Okorocha rejects the appointment of his daughter into board of Federal College of Education, Omoku

Uju Okorocha-Onwuka, the second daughter Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, was appointed as a member of the board of the Federal College of Education, (Tech), Omoku, Rivers State.
Uju is married to Dr. Uzoma Awuka, the son of Nigeria Minister of Education State, exVC of IMSU and former Secretary to Imo State government under Okorocha, Prof. Anthony Anwuka.

However, Governor Okorocha claims that he was not aware of the appointment and therefore has rejected it. He called on whoever is behind the appointment to withdraw it because his daughter does not need the appointment. UNIBEN Student stabs friend '5' times in the head over an argument [graphic]

An undergraduate student of University of Benin, Ekewan campus, named Heritage is currently hospitalized after being stabbed in the head by her fellow student, Becky, who is reportedly supposed to be a friend. The victim's sister claims the argument started over a wrapper, before it escalated into this graphic stabbing. Narrating what happened, she wrote;

"God is Faithful but justice must be served Watch the kind of friends you keep oh! My sister was stabbed in her head five times by Becky Isoken Oseye - 200 level Mass communication student
"After the stabbing she began to shout 'die die die: and Uniben security was doing nothing about it. Instead of carrying the culprit out immediately, they allowed her brush her teeth, eat, bath and then catwalk to the security office. 

Lai Mohammed mourns actress Moji Olaiya, says her death is a rude shock

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has described the sudden death of popular actress Moji Olaiya as a big loss, especially to her family, the movie industry and indeed all her friends and admirers. 

In a statement issued in Beijing, China Thursday, the Minister said he received the news of Moji's untimely death with rude shock and disbelief. He said the contributions of the late actress to the growth of the burgeoning Nollywood will never be forgotten. Lai Mohammed prayed for the repose of the deceased's soul, and for strength and comfort to her family and friends.

Special needs students to get Edo First Lady’s support

First Lady of Edo State, Mrs Besty Obaseki, on Thursday, assured students with special needs in the state of the government’s assistance to help them actualise their dreams and full potentials, while also commending them for their zeal to acquire education in spite of their challenges.
