Reacting to material circulating the internet of a man handcuffed to the back of a moving police van, the government of Edo State has dissociated itself from the treatment meted to the man, adding that those involved in the act would be brought to book.
It would be recalled that in the video and accompanying pictures, a man later identified as Kester Edun was seen with his left hand cuffed to a police van, after which he was dragged as the vehicle moved from Sokponba Road to 1st East Circular Junction.

Police AIG vows to prosecute brutal officers

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5, Mr Adamu Abubakar has promised to prosecute officers who allegedly brutalized and cuffed a man to a van in Benin City.
In a statement signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Emeka Iheanacho, the AIG said a full scale investigation has been launched into the alleged assault by the Zonal Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department.

Presidency Says Newly Rescued Girl Not Part of Chibok Girls

The Presidency has released update about the girl who recently gained her freedom from Boko Haram's den.

According to Aso Rock, the girl is not part of the 276 girls kidnapped en mass from Chibok but is from the area.

"Mariam Mohammed Isa is a 15-year-old JSS1 student kidnapped from Chibok in 2014—but is not one of the 219 girls," it said.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had announced the release at Wednesday's FEC meeting.

The Northern Elders Forum has maintained that the North must retain the presidency if Buhari's failing health prevents him from seeking re-election in 2019.

While speaking in an exclusive interview with New Telegraph, the spokesman of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abdullahi, disclosed that should President Muhammadu Buhari’s failing health prevents him from seeking re-election in 2019, the North must retain the presidency.

Close to a year that the country lost former Super Eagles Coach, Shuaibu Amodu to the cold hands of death, the family is mourning the loss of his teenage son, Suleman who died after a brief illness on Sunday.

126 Boko Haram Terrorists Arrested Inside Damboa IDP Camp

The Nigeria Army on Wednesday announced that it arrested about 126 suspected Boko Haram terrorists at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Damboa, Borno.

According to Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, the suspects were flushed out during mop up operations which was conducted after the Boko Haram terrorists stormed Sabon Gari area in Damboa.

Senate Bars NNPC From Spending Money

The Nigerian Senate has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other revenue generating agencies to stop further capital expenditure until they comply with the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

RRS arrests Homosexual man for having sex with 4 Secondary school boys in Lagos

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 39-year-old man, Victor Akagha, a native of Owerri in Imo state, for sleeping with 4 secondary school boys he lured into gay relationship.

According to a statement released by RRS, Victor who lives in Lagos, was ambushed at the victim’s school, where he came to pick him with his car. Akagha, a betnaija agent with several shops in Lagos had slept with three other teenagers before he was arrested by the operatives on 9th of May, 2017.

Impeached Ondo Deputy Speaker, Four Others Decamp to APC

Fatai Olotu, the impeached Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) along with four other disgruntled lawmakers of the House.

According to SaharaReporters,  the other four members who joined the ruling APC are: Kuti Towase from Akoko South East, Akinyele Fasogbon from Odigbo II, Bimbo Fajolu from Ileoluji/Okeigbo, and Tuyi Akintimehin from Idanre.

Ade Adetimehin, the Deputy Chairman of the APC, received the embattled lawmakers at the Dome Event Centre in Akure.

Audu Maikori sues Governor El-Rufai for N10billion following his arrest and detention

Nigerian entertainment mogul and social activist, Mr. Audu Maikori has sued the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai for the gross violation of his human rights.

In a suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/385/17) filed by his lawyers, Ballason’s Chambers at the Federal High Court, Abuja, Mr. Maikori, is seeking damages against Governor El-Rufai to the tune of N10 billion.

According to details of the suit, which came up for hearing before the trial judge, Hon. Justice John Tsoho on Tuesday, 16th May, 2017, Mr. Maikori prayed the court to enforce his fundamental rights against undue harassment and intimidation by the Kaduna State government, the State Governor and the Nigerian Police.

Lagos To Introduce New Number Plates, Uniforms For Drivers, Conductors

 The Lagos State Government has made known its intentions to introduce new number plate for commercial vehicles in the state.

The state government also hopes to adopt uniforms for commercial drivers and bus conductors.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, stated this during the 2017 Ministerial briefing to mark Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s two years in office.
