Aside ethnic bigotry and religious odium, corruption is apparently Nigeria’s ultimate challenge. Corruption is so rampant that it has unconsciously become a norm. Rights and merit are not valued anymore. Every step you take, you must always be ready to bribe your way or know someone who knows someone. No class is righteous! Almost everyone use their position, power and authority for personal aggrandizement. The educated steals with the pen, the unschooled engineer demands for thrice the price of auto-parts and the politician snaffles the public treasury.

The gains of corruption have shattered the political-will to tackle it. Nonetheless, President Buhari has valiantly expelled the usual mode of fighting corruption with articulate speeches and match words with action. Judges and prominent politicians are being investigated and prosecuted, even though there is just a single convict – Bala Ngilari, the former Governor of Adamawa State.

Chelsea Wins Premier League

Chelsea FC has cling the 2016/2017 Premier League title for the sixth time in history.

Michy Batshuayi, the summer-signed striker who has waited patiently for action this season, rose from the substitutes' bench to write his name in Chelsea history by scoring the goal which earn the team sixth league championship.

The Belgian’s close-range finish on 82 minutes finally broke down predictably stubborn opponents but no-one could say Chelsea did not deserve the oh-so-vital three points on the night, just as no one can say Antonio Conte’s men do not deserve to be champions of England.

It was the visitors from London who had the bulk of the attacking play at the Hawthorns but as was expected, Chelsea came up against a side strong in organisation and with plenty of bodies back.

Earlier this year, environmentalists stood up to vehemently challenge Prof. Ben Ayade’s decision to construct a proposed ‘Cross River Superhighway’. It did not matter that the idea seemed beautiful on the surface – a 260 kilometers long highway with anti-slip features, speed cameras and to crown it, high-speed internet connectivity while connecting other distant parts of the country in a short time.
Debates here and there followed, the conflict was not on the basis of the proposed huge sum of $3.5 billion dollars to be spent for the construction; it was not the dispute over who should get the contract, foreign expatriate or indigenous companies? Neither was it the fear over how long the project will span entwined with the willingness (or not) of subsequent administration(s) to complete such pioneering project.
