$15m Fraud: Courts Refuses Patience Jonathan’s Claim To $9.8m

Justice M.B. Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, today rejected an application filed by a former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, seeking a declaration that she owns the sum of $9.8m domiciled in Skye Bank.
The former First Lady, through her lawyer, I.A. Adedipe, SAN, had filed an application by way of amended originating summons dated December 15, 2016, seeking a declaration that she is the owner of the money and that she is entitled to access the funds without hindrance.

Adedipe had also sought an order of the court discharging the freezing of the account.

Breaking: Appeal Court Okays Amaechi's Probe

The Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division, has upheld the legality of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry established by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to probe the sale of valued asset by the immediate past administration of Chibuike Amaechi in the state.
The Appeal Court in a lead judgment by Justice O. F. Omoleye also held that the Rivers State House of Assembly has the power to make the Commission of Inquiry Law (CAP 30) under which Governor Wike established the Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

DSS Releases Ex-Benue Governor, Suswam After 70-days Detention [PHOTOS]

The Department of State Services, DSS, on Sunday evening released the immediate past governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, after keeping him in detention for 70 days.

His release is coming after the secret police detained him for weeks, citing that he would be of a security threat to Benue State Government, if he was freed.

Traders rejoice as Edo enforces 'Clean-Up' Project

Residents and traders in Benin City have lauded Governor Godwin Obaseki as the state commenced the enforcement of the Edo Clean-up Project by clearing the major streets around King's Square to restore law and order and ensure free flow of traffic for vehicular and human movement.
A trader, who was simply identified as Mrs. Gloria, commended the governor for what she described as a good job, while also calling on him to reduce the price of renting stores in the market, especially as they were ready to comply with the government's policies on cleaning Edo.

Update: Former Edo, Bayelsa Gov aspirant, candidate attacked by thugs

Former Edo state governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Mr Blessing Agbomhere and candidate of the Bayelsa State People's Democratic Movement, PDM Moses Siasia were on Monday attacked at the Benin Airport.

Agbomhere and Siasia were allegedly attacked by over 30 armed thugs suspected to be loyal boys of the state Deputy Governor, Hon Philip Shaibu who was on the same flight with the duo.

Speaking to newsmen at the Police Command headquarters in Benin City, Agbomhere alleged that he met the deputy governor at the Abuja Airport and avoided him but was surprised when he made a call from the plane ordering some boys to come wait for him at the Benin airport.

Chief Enahoro's first son, Kenneth Enahoro dies at 63

The First son of Nigeria's nationalist, Chief Anthony Enahoro, Mr Kenneth Enahoro is dead.
He died on Sunday at the age of 63 in his sleep.

Condolence register has since been opened in his honour at his family's residence 10 Aideyan Street, GRA in Benin City while his remains have since been deposited in an undisclosed morgue.

Jonathan Hails President Buhari Over Release Of 82 Chibok Girls

 Mr Taidi Jonathan, former Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Minna chapter, on Monday said the release of the 82 Chibok school girls demonstrated the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to the welfare of all Nigerians.
Taidi said in an interview with newsmen in Minna that the gesture was also a clear demonstration of the Buhari administration to secure the release of all those in captivity.

“It shows that the Federal Government and its partners have the capacity to release the remaining girls.

Nigerians Compare Health Status of Newly Released Chibok Girls with Counterpart in IDP Camps [photos]

Nigerians are posing a critical question over the look and how healthy the 82 newly freed Chibok girls compared to their counterpart freed in October 2016.

 Boko Haram militants released 82 schoolgirls out of a group of more than 200  they kidnapped from the northeastern town of Chibok three years ago in exchange for prisoners, the presidency said on Saturday.

President Muhammadu Buhari also received the girls on Sunday evening in the capital Abuja, before jetting out of the country.

Lawyers not immune to Jail – Prof Sagay

The Chairman Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Prof Itse Sagay has called on the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, to investigate, arrest, try and jail lawyers who receive loots as fee from corrupt public servants and politicians.

Prof Sagey stated this on Monday in Benin City at the 2017 Annual Law Week of the Nigeria Bar Association, Edo State Branch theme: "Fighting Corruption within the rule of law in a democracy".

PDP condemns Swapping of Boko Haram Prisoners for Chibok Girls' Release

The Ahmed Makarfi faction of the opposition PDP has condemned the decision by the government to swap Boko Haram prisoners with some of the abducted Chibok girls.

About 82 of the girls, who were abducted from their school in April 2014, were released Saturday as part of a prisoner swap that saw the release of 5 Boko Haram suspects.

Many rights groups like Amnesty International have commended the move, but PDP faction even though the release of the girls was good, freeing the terror suspects was bad.

Nigeria's Amaju Pinnick Appointed AFCON President

Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has been appointed president of African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Pinnick is also expected to head the media committees of Confederations of African Football (CAF).
The announcement was made at the executive committee meeting of CAF in Bahrain on Monday.

The NFF on its twitter broke the news: “Breaking: NFF President Amaju Pinnick has just been appointed President of Afcon and Media Committees of CAF."

Our Role In 82 Chibokgirls Release - Red Cross

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Africa said it only acted as an intermediary between Boko Haram and the Nigerian government towards the release of the 82 Chibokgirls last Saturday.

It said ICRC vehicles were used to transport the freed girls to Nigerian officials at Banki, in Borno state.

Baby Killed , WASSCE results burnt in fire incidents

A seven-day-old baby has died, while copies of West African Senior School Certificate Examination results were burnt after fire broke out in the Makoko and Satellite Town areas of Lagos State on Saturday.

According to PUNCH Metro, the baby was burnt to death in Makoko after the fire started around 6pm. It was gathered that a resident was cooking on a stove, but later left it unattended to.

BBOG, Ezekwesili Reacts to Release of 82 Chibok Girls

The Bring Back Our Girls Group (BBOG) on Sunday applauded the Federal Government and security agencies on the release of the 82 Chibok girls.
