Senate Confirms Two New Ministers

The Senate has screened and confirmed Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan as ministers, following their nominations by President Muhammadu Buhari in March.

Mr. Ocheni is from Kogi State which has not had anyone in the Federal Executive Council, as constitutionally required, since the death of James Ocholi in an accident last year.

Mr. Hassan, Gombe State, is to replace Amina Mohammed who left Nigeria’s public service to take
up top responsibility at the United Nations.

Ex Gov Babangida Aliyu Granted Bail

A Minna High Court on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of N150 million to former Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger, charged with N4.568 billion misappropriation.

Aliyu was arraigned last Tuesday on a six-count charge alongside Umar Nasko, the Chief of Staff under his administration. The former officials were accused of conspiring and dishonestly converting for personal use, the sum belonging to Niger State Government.

According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is prosecuting the former officials, the misappropriated funds are ecological projects funds as well as money realised from the sale of 16 per cent shares of the state in the North-South Power Company.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.

Court Convicts INEC Official For Bribery

Following a plea bargain agreement, Justice Muhammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, today convicted Yisa Olarenwaju Adedoyin, an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for receiving bribe to compromise the 2015 general election.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Mr. Adedoyin for receiving a cash payment of over N70m from Tijani Inda Bashir, a 3rd defendant in the matter. Mr. Bashir had received N234.88 million from the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deizani Allison-Madueke, for disbursement to his colleagues in the electoral commission.

The Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has said the reason they are present in major roads across Edo state is to ensure that the lives of road users are safe.

The State Coordinator of Special Marshal, Mr Friday Ekhator, gave the advice on Wednesday in Benin City while speaking to journalists on the activities of the voluntary arm of the FRSC.

Mr Ekhator said the Special Marshals are always on the roads in collaboration with the regular Marshals to ensure that the roads are safe and devoid of traffic congestions which are capable of causing road accident.

N1.8bn CBN loan empowers entrepreneurs, booms business in Edo

The sum of N1.8bn loan facility secured by Edo State Government from the Central Bank of Nigeria's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund (MSMEDF) may already be yielding dividends as new opportunities are opening for beneficiaries to sustain themselves in gainful employment.


It would be recalled that Edo state Government had last year with the assistance of the world bank provided loans with little interest rate to boost the business of deserving SMEs in the State.

Ambode Begins Demolition Of Shops Near Ikeja Computer Village

Officials of Governor Akinwumi Ambode-led Lagos state government have begun demolition of shops located at the Ikeja New Garage along the popular Computer Village, Ikeja.

According to Premium Times, about 18 shops have been demolished so far, with heavily armed police officers supervising the demolition.

Edo NUJ urges FG to review allocation to media as Obaseki, Others assures journalists of Security


To commemorate the World Press Freedom Day set aside by the United Nation, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ have urged the Federal Government to institute a constitutional review that would give an annual allocation to the Media as the Fourth Estate of the realm.

        This development has raised among anxiety among Nigerians over the prolonged health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

        Last month, President Buhari was twice absent at the FEC meeting; the development that had sparked fresh concern about his health condition.

Obaseki to solve Edo Poly problems in a month

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has assured staff of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen that his administration would pay the 10-month salary arrears owed them, and would enforce prompt salary payment in the institution.

This was as he received executives from the school’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) at the Edo State Government House in Benin City.

Governor Obaseki noted that the blame for the school’s condition lay with both the government and the school’s administration.

Lagos Prophet arrested for taking N70m, three houses from woman to cure Fibroids

The police in Lagos have commenced investigation into a case involving one 45yrs old Oladele, a prophet at a church in Oke Ira, in the Ogba area of the state.

The police at Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, said the prophet was being held for allegedly defrauding a businesswoman of N70m, a duplex, two five-bedroomed bungalows, a Lexus and a Toyota Highlander, 2014 model.

How did it happen?

It was learnt that the woman’s ordeal began in 2007 after she was told by a medical doctor that her womb would have to be removed to heal her of fibroids.

At the resumed hearing of the case Tuesday, a witness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Dalhatu, told Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja how monies were being disbursed from the accounts of the Nigeria Air Force, NAF, on Badeh's order.

EFCC Arraigns Two For €88, 000 Internet Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 arraigned the duo of Ajani Isaac Adedotun, (a.k.a. Clara Williams and Lara Williams) and Adesina Segun Adedeji before Justice A.D. Oladimeji of the Osun State High Court sitting in Ede, on a 50-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence. 

The petitioner alleged that the victim, Michael Wassink, a Dutch citizen, was defrauded of over €88,000 in an Internet romance scam. The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

Obaseki inaugurates 500m concrete pavement roads


Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has restated his commitment to completing 3000km of roads within his first four years in office, adding that more youths would be trained in road design and construction using concrete technology.

He stated this as he commissioned the newly reconstructed 500m Nevis Street, which links four major roads in Benin City.
The newly reconstructed Nevis Street is the first road to be reconstructed in the state, using concrete technology to facilitate durability.
