For the Love of Country: 30,000 youths pray for Buhari in Akwa Ibom [photos]

About 30,000 youths of Akwa Ibom State yesterday, Friday June 23, defied the rains and turned up to intercede for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari at a prayer convocation organised by the All Progressives Congress in the State.

The prayer convocation held at Obong Nsima Ekere’s playground, four lane, Uyo, was attended by youths of the APC from all the 31 local government areas.

Giving an exhortation on the theme “Provocating a Supernatural Turning Point”, Pastor Ukeme Francis Etukudoh, of Leadsway Christian Centre, Uyo, said leading Nigeria out of her present travails require the sacrifice of everyone.

“We have heard about recession, we have faced very serious crises as a nation; we will overcome these, but there is a sacrifice that all of us need to make for a turning point in Nigeria”.

Reading from 2nd Samuel 21 vs 1, which tells the story of three years of famine in Israel under King David who reigned in Saul’s stead, said God used famine as punishment upon Israel because of innocent blood spilled by a previous government, led by Saul.

The scriptures in that portion reads, “And there was famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered , It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites” (KJV).

That scriptures add that Israel wriggled itself out of her compounding woes after an atonement was made to the Lord by the remnants of Gibeah.

Pastor Etukudoh said anytime Israel spilled blood of the innocent, God took a curse upon her under a new administration.

“Did you know that a previous government can cause problem for the future?

When Solomon sinned against God by causing the death of Uriah and taking his wife, he made restitution and God said, I will not destroy this kingdom in your days, but in the days of your children”.

He said it is important for christians to understand events from biblical perspective so that they will know how best to pray for solution to such issues.

Pastor Etukudoh applauded conveners of the prayer convocation for interceding for the President, saying that, praying for leaders was a responsibility sanctioned by God.

The prayer meet which had praise and worship session, featured prayers for peace in Nigeria, and Akwa Ibom State; prayers of success for Buhari’s administration, appointees of the APC from Akwa Ibom State, the APC in Akwa Ibom State; and prayers for divine wisdom and direction for the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Prayers were also offered for the new executives of two APC youth groups, Akwa Ibom APC Youth council and Akwa Ibom APC Grassroots Support for Buhari/Osinbajo.

Representative of President Muhammadu Buhari at the event, Senior Special Assistant on Legal Matters and Documentation, Professor Usman Adamu said he was “pleasantly surprised” by the love shown the President by youths of the APC in Akwa Ibom State.

“What I have seen here is surprising, but surprising in a very pleasant manner. I’m dearly touched that the APC in Akwa Ibom State is organising a prayer for Nigeria and the President”.

Prof. Adamu said by such show of love, the federal government will stand by the Party in the State to deliver the needed change

“By this appreciation and gratitude, Akwa Ibom State is prepared for better things to come”, Adamu said.

Earlier, coordinator of the prayer meet, Prof. Chris Ekong said praying for the President was not a misplaced priority, particularly when consideration was given to the fact Akwa Ibom State faired better under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ekong said, “though our votes for the President went the way they did, the President has shown us love. We can count the number of Akwa Ibom People that have been appointed into his administration.

“We can see the interventions on our roads, we are aware of the award of contract for the dualisation of Ikot Ekpene/Calabar Itu road. We didn’t have it this good”.

Goodwill messages were received from M.D. of the NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere; the State Chairman of the APC, Dr. Amadu Atai; member representing Oruk Anam/Ukanafun State Consituency, Mr. Emmanuel Ukoette, among others.

Akwa Ibom State APC is about the only in the South-South to convene a prayer assembly for the President.

The prayer meet was not for declaration of campaigns as some persons mischievously claimed.
