EFCC Drags Bank Manager, Four Others To Court Over N55.8M Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, dragged former Manager, United Bank for Africa(UBA) Benin branch, Florence Onome Odior before a Benin City High Court for allegedly defrauding one Moses Obozohae, a customer of N55.840.000.00

Florence Odior and four others are facing 16 count charges of stealing, conspiracy, fraud and converting the said amount to personal use contrary to section 467(2)(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Edo State of Nigeria, 2006 while she was the branch Manager in 2012.
 
Among the charges are, Florence Onome Odior sometime in 2012, whilst being a Branch Manager in the employment of United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Benin, Edo State within the jurisdiction of Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, uttered a forged document titled: United Bank for Africa Certificate of deposit with Reference No. TD0990001445 dated 2nd August 2012 to Moses Obozokhae as genuine.

Conspiracy to commit felony viz; stealing contrary to section 516A of the Criminal Code Cap C. 21 vol. 1 Laws of Edo state of Nigeria 2006.

Counsel to the anti graft Commission, Aliu Mustapha who solicited for accelerated hearings into the case also opposed to extension of administrative bail on the accused persons as canvassed by their counsels.

He equally kicked against the sudden decision of the accused persons to file bail application when the commission was yet to serve them charge sheet.

On their parts, Counsels to the accused persons prayed the court for extension of time to enable them study the charge sheet and make appropriate reply.

Counsel to the 4th accused, Barrister Chukwuka Enegide said the accused persons have always been regular in court and have no reason to jump bail.

In his rulings, the presiding judge,High Court (5) Ohimai Ovbiagele adjourn the case to June 16th for arraignment and hearings of bail application.
