Become a Volunteer/sponsor, As Arise Eduscholarship Celebrates 10-years in pursuit of free Education for Children in Need

We all know Education is the most important gifts parents can to give to their children, but the economic and social situation in Nigeria/Africa has rendered some of parents incapacitated and unable to fulfill this primary duty.
In the later days of Colonial Nigeria, shortly before Independence, Obafemi Awolowo as Premier of Western Nigeria in 1952 was the first to have introduced a free education programme to the country extending it to the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of learning.
Though more emphasis was placed on primary education because it was the root and foundation on which other levels of educations are built; as Nigeria gained Independence in 1960 and became a Republic in 1963; many Nigerians began to struggle to acquire education to the highest levels with many
acquiring scholarship to the tertiary institution which has since been eroded due to lack of government's involvement in the plight of the less privileged as corruption began to eat deep into the fabrics of the Nigerian society including the academic world. Many children from less financially able parents have either had to forgo their education to assist their parents in streets trading or are forced to attend schools with no learning facilities, consequently leaving them with no exposure, nor opportunities for future endeavours.

To breath a sigh of relief, a Non-Governmental Organization known as "the Arise Eduscholarship Foundation" came on board 10 years ago precisely in 2006.

The vision of the foundation is to arm the African child with formal education by serving as a connecting platform between that gifted and deserving African child and the volunteering sponsors.
Driven by the principle of active compassion, the founder and several other like minds have successfully sponsored many deserving needy children through boarding secondary school education since 2006. The foundation has been able to train at least 16 beneficiaries through their scholarship scheme, with four currently in the university, five awaiting entry and others in the secondary school and primary schools.

According to the founder, Mr Rex Osagiede, sponsoring a child to public schools like Edo College (JSS1 to SS3): cost 194,000 Naira only/ per year; Sacred Heart Girls Model Secondary School Ubiaja (JSS1 to SS3): cost 170,870 Naira only/per year; Federal Science and Technical College Uromi (JSS1 to SS3): costs 152,000 Naira ONLY/per year while more schools across other states of Nigeria are being vetted for partnership.

“The vision to educate the African Child transcends borders; however, the scope and capacity of influence currently have us rendering Educational Support and Mentoring to deserving needy children in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria;

“We share a common conviction that with your support today, we would change tomorrow for the African Child and the extended brave new world”. He said.

“There are many deserving smart children in Africa, wallowing in penury and having their dreams of achieving basic education turn to dust, a situation that further endangers, the continent and its resident descents. Because we understand the immense value in aiding a child acquire basic education we decided to commit ourselves to a cause that helps these kids get education support to pay tuition by linking them with Volunteer Sponsors across the world.

“You can offer any kind of support to a needy child or more children, but basically, we seek the support of Tuition payment through the High School academic year. However, we like to state unambiguously, that we do not accept direct donations, the major medium we use to get you to Sponsor an African Child is to locate the deserving needy ones and connect them with you, while we also connect you with their School Administrators who would receive directly your appropriate rendered support.

“While you might wonder what constitute a 'deserving' status for a child to be recommended for Education Support, for clarity, it is a due diligence performed by AESF that shows the performance report of the child 'satisfactory' in terms of; First, Character, Prior Academics Excellence and Perceived Genuine Need for Support.

While the Ultimate Goal is to Educate Africa! We are starting from our immediate circle of influence, with the aim of expanding outward to the entire scope envisioned.

“The gesture is to help the less privileged gain access to quality education seeing the economic situation being faced the country.

“Once the foundation identifies a brilliant child, they look for a sponsor to see him or her through school while they will pick their next batch as schools conduct entrance exams into the secondary school.

“But one of the challenges that the foundation faces now is that of sponsorship for the students it has already identified. Since they don’t accept direct donations, they believe in connecting willing sponsors with deserving children willing to acquire standard education”.

Also, he said the mission of the group is “to guide deserving children through their difficult learning curve at this stage of their lives. Provide standard educational Support for deserving needy children. We established this platform to connect with you and you with the future of the world we desire to create.

“If we would prepare for any Africa future, we must first prepare today's African Children, because they are the future. This is why we strive to provide the deserving education for the needy children back home, by linking them with compassionate concerned global citizens”.

“Following the relative literacy deficiency in the regular African immediate Family circles, many kids lose sight of the goal to get Education before all else. We are building a presence that caters for this gap with your support”.
