Some residents in Benin who spoke to newsmen during an inspection tour at the weekend applauded the government for focusing on linking roads as it would ease traffic jam along major roads.

A resident in wire road Joseph Iyoyie described the road before reconstruction as a write-off and was impeding business activities in the area for years.

“This road was very bad and sometimes we pass through Urubi but it is usually choked up. Oshiomhole tried but we thank Obaseki for work he has done on this road. In my 15 to 18 years I have been in Benin this is the first time this road has been tarred and I am very happy”. Mr iyoyien said.

Also, Mr Joseph Akinloye at Navis Street applauded Governor Obaseki for the new model of road construction and noted that residents of the area have not had it this good in the area.

He said, “They have tried in the construction of this road and we are happy with the work. The road used to be very bad but now look now beautiful it is.

“We are happy that he is rehabilitating the roads and we pray that he continues like this because if the roads are good business will grow”.

Addressing newsmen on the construction of roads so far across the City Center, the Director of Construction, Ministry of Works, Mr Obanor John explained that some of the roads that were prone to erosion were constructed with concrete pavement to ensure its durability.

He disclosed that a total of 27 kilometer roads have been completed so far with the use of rigid (concrete) or flexible (asphalt) pavement or with both noting that out of the 29 roads pegged for rehabilitation and reconstruction, over 15 have been completed.

“To a reasonable extent we have achieved our target so far”.

“Some of the roads we have completed while some are on-going. The weather has not impeded the work so far and we might have gone a large extent before the rains”. Obanor stated.

Roads inspected are Ikpokpan Road, Ogbetuo, Oni, Osabuohien Close, Oba Eweka road, Jemide, Akhiobare, 1st Ugbor, Wire road, Nekpenekpen, and Navis Street.

Other roads under construction include Oko central, extending to Gauis Idubor, Irowa Street, Erediauwa Road, Off Ekehuan road, Idele Avenue, Iluoba Street, Off Aerodrome Close, and other notoriously eroded roads earmarked for rehabilitation.
