Kwara State Governor Pardons 20 Inmates

The Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed has pardoned 20 inmates serving various jail terms at Oke-Kura and Mandala prisons in Ilorin. This is part of the ongoing 50th-anniversary celebration of the state.

Six of the inmates who were to die by hanging were granted life imprisonment while one other who was sentenced to life imprisonment had his sentence converted to 21 years.

Speaking during anniversary visit to the Oke-Kura prison, the governor explained that section 212 of
the 1999 constitution, as amended, empowered him to pardon offenders whose sentences are not subject to appeals.
