Edo First Lady, MWAN to establish health facilities

The Wife of the Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki has disclosed that the Office of the First Lady would collaborate with the state’s chapter of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) to establish a Well Women Clinic in the state.



Mrs Obaseki also assured of the state government’s support to collaborate with the Association to establishment of a youth friendly centre to handle reproductive and other health issues of adolescents and youths.

She received executive members of Edo State MWAN, led by the President, Dr Mrs Anthonia Njoku at the Edo State Government House in Benin, on Friday and stressed that the goal of the present administration was to improve access to health care and to make the state a medical tourist destination.

She also commended the association for promoting improved health care for women and adolescents, saying: “I am glad that you are up to the task. There is a lot of work to be done in the state. I will like to support the Well Women Clinic and Youth friendly centre and institutionalise some of these projects. I will also work with you, and by the grace of God, we will do many things together in the state,” she said.

She also intimated the association on the Obaseki-led administration’s ongoing reforms in the state’s health system including restructuring the schools of Nursing and Health Information and the proposed establishment of clinics in market places.

Meanwhile, Dr Njoku, revealed that the association planned to launch its Adolescent Health Manual and a youth friendly centre while declaring the wife of the Governor as a Patron of the association.
