Edo: AIG Zone 5 adopts new strategies to combat crime



The Assistant Inspector -General of Police in charge of Zone 5, Benin, Mr Abubakar Mohammed has adopted new and robust strategies to curtain criminal activities such as armed robbery, kidnapping. Cultism, vandalism, herdsmen and farmers clashes among others in its area of command
 
AIG Mohammed made the disclosure in Benin City yesterday at a meeting with Commanders in charge of the various Police Mobile Squadrons and other tactical units within the zone.

The AIG who charged the Squadron Commanders to be more proactive and professional in the discharge of their duties stated that more emphasis will be placed on border towns, communities, linking roads and major high ways to ensure adequate security of lives and properties.

He also charged the commanders to reward the efforts of untiring policemen and lecture them on why they should queue into the “change begin with me” programme of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to shun all forms of corrupt practices.

Further, he warned police officers to key into the democratic policing of the IGP which focuses on respect for fundamental human rights, rule of law and other global best practices.

Mohammed commended officers for their doggedness in fighting crime across the states which according to him has reduced dramatically.

He said, “New and robust strategies have been adopted to curtail criminal activities such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, vandalism, herdsmen and farmers clashes among others in the zone.

“In the new strategies, emphasis should be place on the border towns, communities, linking roads and major highways to ensure adequate security of lives and properties.

“Officers must key into “Change begin with me” programme and shun all forms of corrupt practices, extortion, illegal duties, misuse of firearms, road blocks amongst others.

“The vision and mission of the current leadership of the force led by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris is anchored on proactive policing and not reactive”. He noted.

The meeting was attended by Squadron Commanders of 30 PMF Asaba, 51 PMF Oghara, 5 PMF Benin, Special Protection Unit Base 5 Benin, Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) Base 5 Warrior and 60 PMF Iyamho, Edo state.
