BEDC affirms readiness to provide constant power in Edo, Others

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC has restated its commitment to provide regular power supply in Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo states respectively.

This was disclosed at a three days energy stakeholders meeting tagged, "Ways of Examining the challenges and prospects of the power sector in Edo state" held in Benin City.
Speaking, the Managing Director of BEDC, Mrs Funke Osibodu, said the meeting was to know the challenges faced by the BEDC and customers with a view of finding a lasting solution that would enable regular power supply.

Represented by Executive Director Commercials, Mr Abu Ejoor, Osibodu said, "We hope to essentially close the gab in communication between the BEDC and its numerous customers and stakeholders.

"We affirmed our readiness to continue to provide improved service delivery whilst enjoining all to also pay on services being rendered and ensure safety in all our operations". She added.

On his part, the speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Justin Okonoboh charged the management of the BEDC to ensure the distribution of the prepaid meters across the states to ensure that customers are satisfied with the services rendered and in turn pay for such services.

Okonoboh said, the Assembly has received over 30 petition on BEDC related issues and promised that the house will serve as a mediator between the people who are always aggrieved and the electricity company.

He said the problems of electricity is not entirely the fault of the distribution company because some people have used politics to render plans to make other power plants useless.

"The last time I attended their program told my friend Osibodu to allow every house have a meter so that the problem will be solved and everybody will have the right bill.

"In the house, we are very concerned about power in Edo state. I know of all the petition we have treated this year more than 30 percent have been BEDC related.

"As a house, we are speaking with both sides that is the BEDC and the people and will continue to play the role to encourage the BEDC to sort out their challenges and harness their prospect".

In his speech, the Chairman House Committee on Energy and Water Resources, Hon Ezehi Igbas said the meeting became timely because of the numerous challenges that have greeted the power sector and noted that the meeting was to know how to make both the BEDC give appropriate power to the people who in turn will pay for the services they have been rendered.
