Tricycle Union to partner Edo Govt on Reducing Unemployment

The Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, TOAN has seek partnership with the All Progressives Congress, APC led Edo state government to reduce the rate of unemployment in the state.

Speaking at the Inauguration of the its new executives, the State Chairman of the Association, Comrade John Obozokhai noted that the body is development driven and wouldn’t engage in any illegal activity.

Obozokai said if the government can provide more tricycles for the association, it would take many youths from the street and engage them meaningfully.


He added that the association doesn’t involve in revenue collection but survives on dues from members.

Also Comrade Obozokhai stressed that the association is the only legal tricycle body tied to the Trade Union Congress, TUC, in the country saying any other tricycle body is illegal.

According to Obozokhai, “This association is an umbrella under TUC. This is the only legal body empowered by the Federal Government to carter for the welfare of tricycle owners in Nigeria. Any other tricycle association is illegal.






He however urged security agencies in the state saying, “We are ready to cooperate with you to ensure adequate security in the state. We are not criminals. We have the data base of all tricycle riders and any criminal within us will be fished out and handed over to the necessary security agency.

“We will continue to work with the state government for the betterment of the state. We would also want the state government to partner with us in terms of providing more tricycles to take unemployed youths from the Street”.

On his part, the state Chairman of the TUC, Comrade Ohue Marshal described TOAN as discipline and committed to the development of the state.

He urged the association to respect constituted authorities and feel free to make their problems know through the necessary channels.

Comrade Marshal said they should prove themselves to be educated and enlightened even though they ride tricycles.
