Obaseki stated this when he received executive members of the Idia College Old Girls Association (ICOGA) at the Edo State Government House in Benin on Tuesday.

The governor lamented the standards of education in the state declaring that his administration would complement the provision of educational infrastructure with better teaching and learning standards.

“We are re-thinking our education sector; something went wrong and it has taken us from the enviable position we used to occupy. We are assessing what went wrong and what can be done to revive the standard of our education system. Education is not all about having the infrastructure, but about the content of the instruction and morals”, he said.

Meanwhile, the president of the association, Mrs Madeleine Igbinoba commended the governor on his policies aimed at remodeling basic and vocational education in the state.

Igbinoba also commended the governor, who she recalled was a former teacher in the school for the ongoing rehabilitation of a road leading to the school, adding that the association was contributing its quota to establishing better teaching and learning conditions in its Alma Mater.

The governor further urged members of the association to assist the state in assessing the current standard of education in their Alma Mata, which is a state owned school.
