Oba Ewuare II to Establish Alternative Market for the Poor

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II has disclosed plans to establish an Alternative Market which would sell food items to the people of the kingdom at discount prices.
Oba Ewuare II Ogidigan made this know when he received the leadership of the Edo state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists led by its Chairman, Sir Rolland Osakue at his palace in Benin City.

The Monarch said the market will provide for the needs as well as feed the poor in the society once on a daily basis while a weekly market will also be set up to carter for the needs of other individuals in the state.

He assured people of the state that the Legacies of Oba Erediauwa who has since joined his ancestors will be built on while stating that the annual memorial lecture as announced during his coronation will soon take place.




Oba Ewuare thanked the NUJ for conferring on him a grand patron of the council and said he would do his best to justify the confidence reposed on him.

According to the Oba, “I want to particularly thank the union for conferring on me the Grand Patron of the union. I would do my utmost best to justify the confidence you have reposed in me.

“We want to set up massive discount stock that will be able to meet the needs of those that can’t afford to buy products from the usual market. We will establish an alternative market to carter for individual with lesser needs.

“We have been able to secure a venue where we would have a pilot scheme to see how it will work.

“We will put a system in place a system that can feed the people at least a mean a day and sustain it”.

On his part, the NUJ chairman, Sir Osakue congratulated the monarch on his coronation and affirmed that the people are gladdened with his style of leadership.

He lauded the Oba's support to make gelegele Community a free export zone and noted that it would stern economic activities in the state.
