A legal practitioner in Edo State, Barr. Sule Egele has dragged the Nigeria Police to court over alleged complicity in assassination attempt on his life by some suspected All Progressives Congress(APC) thugs.
In suit No FHC\B\CS\30\2017 before Federal High Court, Benin Division, between Sule Egele, Esq and the Nigeria Police Force, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Superintendent of Police, Okafor Moses, the applicant accused the police of plot to connived with the suspected thugs and turn the case against him
Egele said he narrowly escaped death but had his car badly damaged by the suspected thugs during the September 28th, 2016 Governorship election in Etsako West Local Government Area for supporting the PDP Governorship candidate.
Amongst others, the applicant through his lead Counsel, Olayiwola Afolabi therefore prayed the court for a declaration order restraining the respondents whether by themselves, servants, agents and or privies and whosoever called from harassing, intimidating, threatening to arrest and detain, inviting the applicant for questioning or interrogation
He equally sought an order from the court, that the failure of the respondents to investigate the complaint of the applicant which bothers on the subject for which they are now harassing, intimidating and arresting the applicant and for which two persons had previously been charged to court is only an after thought
In an earlier petition to the Inspector General of Police, dated 17th February 2017,titled, Tardiness and Refusal Of The Police To Investigate Alleged Conspiracy, Assault, Malicious Damage and Assassination Attempt By Suspected Thugs, the complainant urged the police authority to commenced comprehensive investigation into the assassination attempt and bring the culprits to book
He also called on the Police boss to immediately take full charge of the case to ensure impartiality, fairness in the investigation process
"That from the foregoing it became apparent that there was a calculated ploy to smear my name and maliciously, surreptitiously prevent me from pursuing investigations into the dastardly attempt of the thugs.
"That it is appalling that the respondents who failed to do justice to my earlier petition and complain against the thugs are now taking swift action to get me arrested and incarcerated".
