AKEES TOOTHPICK AND PENCIL FACTORY,... UDOM EMMANUEL, LAYING FOUNDATION FOR INDUSTRIAL HUB.

The day 3 of the open governance tour initiated by the Honourable Commissioner: information and  strategy; Mr Charles Udoh focused on the Toothpick and pencil factory located at Ekom Iman,Uyo Akwa Ibom State.

With over 10 hectares,yet to be acquired around the toothpick and pencil factory to house more cottage industries in Akwa Ibom State,Akwa Ibom State Youths should gear up as the hub is programmed to employ more than 4500 Youths.

The pencil and toothpick factory has about 67 workforce and seeks to increase to about 240 workforce with shifts and weekend production within the second quarter of 2017.

The Akwa Ibom industrial hub which houses the toothpick and pencil factory is viewed by pundits as a pacesetter  in achieving in record time what could take the Federal Government almost a term to achieve as proposed by Minister Science and Technology,when he a gave a feasibility study of producing pencil by 2018.

The value chain of having 4500 youths trooping in and out of the hub can not be over emphasized. At present the recycling of news papers for pencils in place of wood, the first in terms of technology for pencils in west Africa is keeping our youths thinking on modalities of turning waste to wealth.

Bamboo plantation and supply to the toothpick section of the hub is on a constant demand. The hitherto ignored and wasted bamboos are in demand this is creating jobs for bamboo farmers.

Great things they say always come in small packages, a conglomerate of cottage industries in the hub with steady power supply will certainly change the economic landscape of Akwa Ibom State.

The Youths who are working at the factory were all full of praise for a performing governor. Miss Nsisong Umoh,the Admin officer for the Toothpick and pencil factory could not hold back her encomiums Mr Udom Emmanuel, for keeping faith with his campaign promises, she said she rather work at the factory than be PA or SA to any politician,since the factory job is more sustainable than political appointments.

Mr Industrialization is in a hurry to deliver on the drive towards an industrialized state by starting cottage industries as foundations and models for private investors to take advantage of and do the impossible.

As citizens, its pertinent to always support our little beginnings rather than run down dreams. Toothpick and pencil might look insignificant but these little things have products of import into Nigeria in the past till Akwa Ibom State under Governor Udom Emmanuel,The performing Governor rose to the demands of the time.
