HOUSING COMMISSIONER CHARGES AKWA IBOM STUDENTS ON VALUES

 Students of Akwa Ibom State origin, and their counterparts from around the country have been charged to remain worthy Ambassadors of the virtues that has made Akwa Ibom unique and outstanding in the comity of States in the African continent. They have been further admonished to shun vices that are capable of truncating their futures, and rather commit themselves to Godliness and positive social values that can contribute in moving the State forward. 

 

These and many more were handed down by the Akwa Ibom State Honorable Commissioner of Housing/Special Duties, Hon. Akan Okon, yesterday (Wednesday) when he played host to a

delegation from the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS), University of Uyo Chapter who were at the Commissioner's residence on a thank you visit, to acknowledge his immeasurable contributions to the Association, especially during the last NAAKISS Week event which held in November of 2016.

 While charging the students not to involve themselves in acts that are capable of truncating their academic sojourn in the University, Commissioner Akan Okon admonished the student leaders to adopt positive values as they are Ambassadors of the State. Said he, "I must remind you that education is the greatest gift available to man, and it guarantees your bright future, hence you must abhor all negative vices of cultism, evil machinations, examinations malpractice and violence. Instead, you must adopt positive values of Godliness, hard work and respect for elders and constituted authority". 

Going further, the Commissioner said, "for me, I am grateful for your acknowledgements, and is inspired to keep supporting the students, but you must remember that as Ambassadors of the virtues we represent as a State, you must live above board, you must join hands with the Government to build a better State for ourselves, and I pray all of you shall succeed to join this dream in future". 

 

Speaking earlier, the leader of the students delegation and NAAKISS President of University of Uyo Chapter, Comrade Esifa Asuquo had poured encomiums on the Honorable Commissioner for his fatherly and students friendly disposition, saying, "we are here to express our deepest appreciation to you for all you have done to the students, especially your immeasurable contributions without which we may not had succeeded in the last NAAKISS Week event last November. 

We are inclined to register our total support and undiluted loyalty to this administration, driven by Governor UDOM Emmanuel, himself a tested technocrat of high repute, and to assure you sir that we shall continue to stand by you after 2019, to consolidate on the gains of this administration". "We are proud to identify with your success stories as a responsible, disciplined and prudent financial technocrat, excellent manager of men and resources, a humble yet smart working professional who means well for the younger generation, and shall work to ensure this qualities come to the center of good governance". 

 The students later presented an Award of Excellence on the Honorable Commissioner in recognition of his highlighted qualities, and as a memento of the visit. 

Present at the visit was the Special Assistant to His Excellency on Student Affairs, Comrade Otobong Aquila Akpan. Others on the students delegation included; Ukeme Akpan, Idongesit Etim, Etinsehe Peter and Joseph Inyang.
