Open letter to Mr Godwin Obaseki.
When decisions of government are perceived to be unreasonable and against the gray of the people who truly own the power,it is the duty of the citizens so affected to speak up and speak out.
Dear Mr Godwin Obaseki,no matter how beneficial to anyone it may sound,I think it is utterly ridiculous and asinine for the Edo State government presently under your watch to set up ranches for
Fulani herdsmen to graze their cattle in the 18 LGAs in Edo State.
There are a plethora of reasons why this sounds nonsensical to any reasoning adult considering the volatile circumstance we have found ourselves as a country as touching the Genocide perpetuated by suspected Fulani herdsmen cum terrorists in the Christian dominated middle belt of Nigeria and the terroristic actions orchestrated by these herdsmen in the South South,South East and the South west which has led to the killing,maiming and raping of thousands of peaceful Nigerians not to talk of the hundreds of millions of farms produce destroyed by their deliberate actions.
Sir,I think invoking a legislation or an
executive order granting these folks express access into our domain is
the worse decision any government could make considering the above
mentioned reasons.
As a technocrat and one who should be bothered about the growth of conventional cusinesses and crop production and animal husbandry in Edo State, one would have thought that promoting Commercial agriculture by encouraging farmers with grants,providing improved seeds and extension services for farmers as well as establishing crop processing factories in all LGAs should have been your concern.
What is your/our business with Fulani herdsmen who have already created settlements for themselves in our villages and as reports have revealed,already causing mayhem in these domains they have settled.shouldn't we be checking their excesses yet and making legislation to make grazing on farmlands illegal,shouldn't we be working with security agencies to help put them in check by first getting them to drop their weapons(for those who carry weapons) like our sister states are doing?
If they are Nigerians,they can dwell and settle peacefully wherever they please and should they constitute any form of nuisance as some presently do,the law must take it cause.
On what premise then are we to spend the taxes of Edo people to build ranches for Fulani herdsmen and accommodation when they have more land in Northern Nigeria and are alot freer to graze their cattle as they please.
How many governors of the 19 Northern States have given this a thought let alone implementing it as you plan to do.
When will your government bother about building low cost houses of Edo people,when will your government make laws that will favour the people directly and indirectly.That should be your priority Sir.Pleasing the Edo people and the Edo people alone must take centre stage and this plan of yours is a No! No!
If there is one issue we cannot politicize,it is the security and welfare of the Edo people and in my opinion Sir,creating a safe haven for these guys to infiltrate our homeland is not in the interest of the majority of Edo people.
We do not hate Fulani people,we do not hate Fulani herdsmen but we must be weary of too much security laxity given to people who have a history of violence.
However long you are going to be as governor is immaterial but given settlers with violent tendencies room that would accommodate them for centuries is not advisable.
Fulani herdsmen don't need grazing reserves in Edo State,Not now! Not in the future.
Please give my thoughts alot of smart thinking.
