#Edo Decides: INEC receives sensitive materials amid tight security

Barely 48 hours to the much awaited Edo 2016 elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has taken delivery of sensitive materials ahead of the Sept. 28 governorship election.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Sam Olumekun, disclosed this to newsmen in Benin on Monday.

According to reports, the sensitive materials were handed over to the commission amid tight security by the police, Department of State Services and the Nigerian Army.

Olumekun said the delivery of sensitive materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria had shown the readiness of the commission to conduct the governorship election.

He said the commission would commence distribution later in the day.

He said the commission would ensure a transparent election on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has beefed up security around the state.

A detachment of soldiers mounted a roadblock about 20m from the Benin-Ore tollgate frisking vehicles coming into the capital city.

There were also police vehicles patrolling the streets of Benin.

Heavy presence of security men and several police checkpoints along Benin-Owo road have been observed

Findings from the Oba market revealed that residents had started stocking their homes with food due to the tension generated between the two leading parties – the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
