Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has dispelled the possibility of relocating Internally Displaced Persons seeking shelter in an IDP camp in the state to their respective homes.

Oshiomhole, who spoke during a visit to the camp on Tuesday evening, also said the state government would provide the necessary facilities needed to make the camp comfortable.

Among the items brought by the governor were 500 bags of rice, five live cows and lunch packs.

The camp operated by the International Christian Centre for Missions and located at Uhogua village, Ovia North East Local Governmen‎t Area of the state, currently caters for about 1,300 persons, including over 400 women and children said to be victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.

A planned relocation of the IDPs last Saturday had been “aborted” after they strongly kicked against the move.

Some of the children had reportedly fainted while many of the women broke down in tears.

But the governor denied being aware of the actions of the IDPs, describing it as a “communication gap.”

Oshiomhole, who noted that every Nigerian reserved the right to live and be treated well in any part of the country, also promised that the state government would build a standard primary school, secondary school and a hostel to provide educational support for the IDPs.

He disclosed that the Red Cross had been able to locate some parents, adding that the government would provide transportation for some of the parents to see their children.

The governor said, “Everybody is concerned that the kids should be safe; nobody had any negative motive in moving the children.

“Having lived in the North all my life, I believe, anywhere, any Nigerian finds himself should be his home.

“What is important (is) that these children are no longer orphans; we will treat them like our children.”

He, however, dismissed media reports linking the said relocation as a political move.
